"Astrology-themed disco party"

Zodiac Disco hits In the Lowest Ferns this Saturday, Grooves with High Spirits

In the colorfully lit, warehouse-chic space of In the Lowest Ferns, the distinct whir of a record player lures Kansas City denizens for an evening of music, revelry, and an unexpected twist on self-expression. The event is Zodiac Disco, a vinyl-only dance party that beckons party-goers to channel their astrological signs through their choice of attire and thrive in the rhythm of the night.

The dance party, scheduled for this Saturday, is the result of a creative collaboration between NOMADA, an eclectic production firm, and Bill Pile, Kansas City’s resident groove ambassador.

NOMADA Vision Storms In the Lowest Ferns

Co-founded by Jason Eubanks, Dante Walton, and Austin Goldberg, NOMADA asserted a strong foot in the world of dance music with its innovative parties and immersive events. Now, collaborating with Bill Pile, they’re continuing to evolve with stylish, thematic parties in the Lowest Ferns—a recently opened West Bottoms warehouse lounge/venue.

One clear demand this time—attendees are encouraged to dress according to their zodiac sign, a tribute to the universal charm of astrology on dance floors. Whether you dramatize it with ram horns for the Aries or exhibit something more ambiguous for the Pisceans, the idea is to immerse yourself and glow in the music.

Shaking Up Kansas City Dance Music Scene

Catching up with the event’s protagonists, NOMADA’s Walton and DJ Pile, we got the scoop on the collaboration, its evolution, and this week’s zodiac theme.

Reflecting on the few months since In the Lowest Ferns opened, Walton spoke candidly about the learning curve. He acknowledged the need for constant adjustments, from bar operation to the mood of the music. The glowing citywide response to NOMADA’s vision has been heartening, he shares, attributing it to creating immersive environments that attract and foster creative minds.

Creating a Spectacle in Space

When asked about the recipe to their aesthetically appealing yet extravagant nights, Walton pointed to the team’s knack for aesthetics and design. From interior design to art installations, every aspect of an event is meticulously crafted to offer immersive and a sensory delight to the attendees.

Pile, a veteran in the city’s music scene, eagerly anticipates the Zodiac Disco. He recollected a similar themed party at El Pozo which had responded well to the theme.

Upcoming Act: Jazz and Live Music

As the city doors open to warmer months, Walton hints at expanding their repertoire of events. From more inside-outside activations to introducing jazz music on Thursdays, an atmosphere of diversity in music looms. Walton fondly remembers a unique Valentine’s Day event featuring saxophonist Ernest Melton which lent a moody ambiance to In the Lowest Ferns. A night dedicated to lounging, and uninterrupted jazz is on the cards, he reveals.

Pile, known for his diverse selection of music, expressed excitement over introducing newer genres to the Kansas City crowd. His deep seeped experience and the yearning to introduce varied music to the crowd have made him a beloved figure in the local music scene.

The Call of the Disco Ball

In a city where music interests are evolving and there’s a welcome openness to explore different genres, Zodiac Disco is a visionary leap. Bold on the concept and extravagant in execution, this Saturday event promises an unforgettable night of self-expression and dance in Kansas City.
