Exciting Night Ahead in Kansas City: YeeHaw! Returns for Its Third Year

Ready to kick off the holiday season with a bang? Well, mark your calendars for Saturday, November 23, because Kansas City is hosting YeeHaw!—an electrifying variety show that’s not just a night of laughter and music but also supports a fantastic cause. That’s right; this event benefits the KC Tenants Union, and it’s pulling out all the stops this year at the historic Midland Theatre.

A Star-Studded Lineup

Fans of comedy and music will be thrilled with the stellar lineup this year. Headlining the comedy segment is none other than Beth Stelling, who’s riding high on the success of her recent Netflix special, If You Didn’t Want Me Then. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg! Musical performances will feature rising stars like Briston Maroney, Samia, and the uplifting sounds of the Salvation Choir. To top it all off, the show will be hosted by the charismatic Caleb Hearon and the talented Katie Crutchfield of Waxahatchee fame.

From Humble Beginnings

Believe it or not, YeeHaw! is only in its third year. Its origins trace back to a chance encounter between Hearon and Tara Raghuveer, the director of KC Tenants, at a local venue called the Ship. “We just decided to throw together a show,” recalls Hearon. And throw together they did, raising an impressive $7,000 to $8,000 in its inaugural year! It was such a success that they quickly outgrew the Ship, moving to the Truman last year and now to the Midland for this year’s extravaganza.

Building Community Through Laughter

One of the biggest supporters of the event, Tara Raghuveer, emphasizes that YeeHaw! has grown into something really special. “It’s one of the best nights of the year,” she says enthusiastically. “With people like Caleb and Katie in our corner, it brings the community together and raises awareness of the Tenants Union.” The synergy is palpable, and it’s clear that this event is more than just entertainment—it’s about fostering a sense of community.

Why You Should Attend

As the cold weather approaches, YeeHaw! acts as a perfect reminder to unwind and come together before the holiday bustle takes over. “We get to wake up and choose whose team we’re on,” Hearon reflects, citing a sentiment from Raghuveer that inspires him. “This show is an opportunity to choose working-class people and support their fight for affordable housing.”

But it’s not just about donations; it’s also about spreading joy. “Our union is a place of joy and soul,” Raghuveer pointed out, highlighting that the event’s spirit is critical for their mission. Community, laughter, and collective joy are at the heart of this star-studded affair.

A Musical Feast

This year, attendees can expect an exhilarating performance from the Salvation Choir, known for their infectious energy and powerful harmonies. And don’t miss the one and only Waxahatchee, who plans to deliver a set featuring all of her “hits.” “If there’s a song you think of when you think of me, you’ll probably hear it,” Crutchfield promises, teasing fans with a taste of what’s to come.

A Vision for the Future

And let’s not forget about what it all means for the future. Both Hearon and Raghuveer are already tossing around ideas for next year’s show, with a focus on raising more money to support the vital work of the KC Tenants Union. “We want to raise more and more every year because money makes the work possible,” Hearon declares passionately.

Get Ready to YeeHaw!

If you’re looking for a night filled with laughter, amazing music, and a chance to contribute to a meaningful cause, YeeHaw! is the place to be. This is more than just a show—it’s a celebration of community, resilience, and the spirit of Kansas City! So grab your tickets and be part of something magical on November 23 at the Midland Theatre.

Remember, it’s not just an event; it’s a movement. Join the fun and help make a difference!
