Exciting New Women’s Sports Bar Set to Open in Kansas City, Championing Female Athletes

Exciting Times for Women’s Sports in Kansas City!

In Kansas City, the buzz surrounding sports is palpable. Local bars are packed with fans during game nights, and you can feel the excitement in the air as everyone gathers to cheer for their favorite teams. But amidst this fervor, there’s a quiet yet powerful shift happening, especially when it comes to women’s sports. This movement is spearheaded by two passionate locals who are determined to change the game.

Introducing The Dub: A Space for Women’s Sports

Meet Rachel Glenn and Monica Brady, a dynamic couple who are setting out to create something special in Kansas City. They are excited to announce the upcoming opening of The Dub, the city’s very first women’s sports bar! Located just a short ten-minute drive from the groundbreaking CPKC Stadium, which is specially designed for a women’s professional sports team—the KC Current—The Dub is on a mission to uplift and champion women’s sports.

“The Dub is a bar where we are going to be championing and prioritizing women’s sports on TV. We want to have the sound on,” Brady exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. This isn’t just another bar; it’s a space thoughtfully designed with the female sports fan in mind.

A Much-Needed Change

Glenn shared their frustrations, saying, “The amount of times we have gone to a bar to watch a women’s game and had to ask, ‘Hey, can you put it on?’ Let alone we are not going to hear it at all.” This experience resonates with many who have felt sidelined in sports bars where women’s events don’t get the airtime or attention they deserve.

The Dub aims to change this narrative by providing a friendly and welcoming atmosphere where everyone—men and women alike—can come together to support women’s sports. “We really want to give the athletes, the teams, and the sports themselves the platform that they’ve always deserved,” Brady said passionately.

A Growing Community of Female Sports Fans

The couple believes there’s a significant need for a place where women feel safe and included while enjoying their love for sports. “There are so many women that probably want to go out and watch sports whether it’s the Chiefs or a women sport,” Glenn noted. Their goal is to create an inclusive space where women can comfortably cheer for their teams, indulge in good food and drink, and connect over their shared love for sports.

Joining the National Movement

The Dub won’t be alone in this endeavor. Around the country, other women’s sports bars are gaining popularity. One notable example is Sports Bra in Portland, Oregon, which has successfully created a vibrant atmosphere celebrating women in sports. Brady expressed her gratitude for these pioneers, stating, “Jenny [owner of Sports Bra] has been so successful and really brought to light what women sports can do in a bar setting.”

This national trend indicates a growing market that appreciates the presence of women in sports, giving Glenn and Brady hope for the future of The Dub.

Pop-Up Events to Build Excitement

While the bar’s grand opening is set for January 2025, the excitement is already building! Brady and Glenn have been actively engaging the community by hosting pop-up events across Kansas City. Their next event is scheduled for November 3 at the Drunken Worm, starting at 2 PM. “It’s a chance for us to meet people, share our vision, and have fun together,” Brady shared.

A Bright Future Ahead

As the sports landscape evolves, and as viewership for women’s sports continues to soar, The Dub promises to be a game-changer in Kansas City. It’s more than just a bar; it’s a celebration of women athletes and a communal space where everyone can come together. With their heartfelt mission and determination, Rachel Glenn and Monica Brady are paving the way for a bright and inclusive future in sports. So mark your calendars and get ready to support Kansas City’s very own women’s sports bar—the journey has just begun!
