There’s some buzz going around Kansas City, and it’s all about women’s sports! With the viewership of women’s sporting events hitting all-time highs, Kansas City is gearing up to celebrate this exciting trend. Monica Brady and her wife Rachel Glenn are stepping up, making a remarkable decision to open the city’s very first bar dedicated entirely to women’s sports. Say hello to The Dub, which is set to open its doors at 105 W. Ninth St (in the former Banksia bakery) soon!
While an official opening date is still in the works, Brady is hopeful that they will be serving up good vibes and great games well before the end of the year. Inspired by the groundbreaking success of Portland’s The Sports Bra, which made waves as the country’s first women’s sports bar, The Dub aims to create an atmosphere where female athletes can finally shine on the screen—and with the volume turned up!
As a longtime fan of women’s sports, Brady can hardly contain her excitement. She describes it as “a dream” to have a space where women’s games can play on TV, allowing fans to really connect with the action. You can expect to wash it all down with a selection of beers, tasty cocktails, and wine—a refreshing change from the typical bar offerings. Although the food menu is still being finalized, it promises to add even more flavor to the experience!
Brady emphasizes that The Dub will not only be for women; it’s a welcoming haven for anyone who wants to rally around and support women’s sports. “We want everyone to gather as like-minded fans, regardless of gender or orientation,” she says. Imagine a vibrant spot where you can cheer for your favorite teams while munching on delicious snacks and sipping on refreshing drinks with friends!
Speaking of enjoyable spaces, if you’re looking for a laid-back vibe with craft cocktails, head over to Vye in the Crossroads! With intimate settings, it boasts a cozy first-floor lounge and a rooftop deck that glitters with stunning downtown views. Their cocktails are crafted in-house, with fan favorites including the espresso martini and the refreshing Lavender Lemon Drop. Vye aims to create a chilled atmosphere, perfect for a night out with friends or a cozy evening out.
If you’re in the mood for something a bit more hearty, check out Acre in Parkville, which has recently celebrated its two-year anniversary. This popular restaurant is expanding with a new event space that perfectly accommodates about 40 guests for wine dinners and gatherings. Chef Andrew Longres, who opened Acre back in August 2022, is thrilled to offer new possibilities for private events that fans couldn’t access before.
Let’s not forget the heartwarming stories emerging within the Kansas City restaurant scene. A recent tragic incident affected many, as beloved chef Shaun Brady was fatally shot outside his restaurant. In honoring his legacy, the community has shown tremendous support, raising over $100,000 for his family. The outpouring of love showcases just how strong the connection is within the Kansas City dining community.
As Kansas City continues to evolve and grow, there’s no shortage of exciting developments happening across the city. From the upcoming launch of The Dub to the unique experiences offered at Vye and Acre, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Be sure to keep an eye out for the opening of The Dub and other local spots; after all, we’re all in this together, and there’s a lot to celebrate!
