UMKC Becomes First University to Partner with U.S. Cyber Command for Groundbreaking Cybersecurity and AI Research

UMKC Announces Revolutionary Partnership with U.S. Cyber Command

Kansas City, Missouri – The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) has made a groundbreaking announcement – their entry into a partnership with the U.S. Cyber Command (USCC), making it the first university in the nation to do so.

A Landmark in the Field of Research

In a first-of-its-kind venture, UMKC and the USCC have entered into a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement aimed at achieving significant advancements in the field of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. UMKC has now become the first educational institution in the country to sign such an agreement, and the second one to be signed by the command overall.

Further enhancing its progressive stature, UMKC also sealed an Educational Partnership Agreement with the USCC. This exceptional agreement grants UMKC students privileged access to internships, guest lectures, and advanced research facilities.

A Key Milestone for UMKC and MIDE

Commenting on this development, Travis Fields, Ph.D., the interim director of the Missouri Institute for Defense and Energy (MIDE), expressed his excitement and optimism. “This partnership represents a key milestone in demonstrating the technical relevance of UMKC and the Missouri Institute for Defense and Energy’s (MIDE) faculty, staff and students,” Fields said. “We are thrilled to be working on cyber solution research and development for the Department of Defense.”

The U.S. Cyber Command: An Overview

Established in the year 2010, the U.S. Cyber Command is a crucial part of the U.S. Department of Defense. Its primary function lies in ensuring the security of the cyberspace owned, leased, or operated by all the elements within the Department of Defense. The USCC is designed to direct, synchronize, and coordinate cyberspace planning and operations to defend and advance national interests.
