Traffic Woes in Kansas City: Broken Down Vehicles and Crashes Piling Up

Hey Kansas City! If you’re planning to hit the roads today, you might want to think twice. Traffic on our major highways is getting jammed up with several incidents causing delays around town. Here’s the scoop on what’s happening out there. Buckle up; it’s going to be a bumpy ride!

Northbound I-35: A Car Trouble Zone

First off, if you’re driving northbound on I-35 from Eaton Street to Southwest Trafficway (that’s Exit 235 to Exit 1A), watch out for a broke down vehicle sitting in the lane as of Wednesday night. This stretch is causing folks to navigate around a 450-foot traffic snarl. The warning kicked in around 9:04 p.m. and the last update was reported shortly after at 9:59 p.m..

Oh, but it doesn’t stop there! There’s also a broken down vehicle on the same highway between East Santa Fe Street (Exit 218) and 119th Street (Exit 220) in Olathe. This one might stretch over 650 feet, with alerts coming in at 5:52 p.m., updated again an hour later. Looks like I-35 is not winning today!

Merriam Gets Caught Up Too

Moving a bit further, if you’re cruising eastbound on I-35 from 75th Street to 67th Street, there’s another broken down vehicle. This alerts motorists of a 510-foot inconvenience reported around 5:31 p.m., with the last word being communicated by 6:05 p.m.. You might want to consider alternative routes if you’re coming from that way.

Unexpected Crashes and Broken Rides

In case you’re heading over towards I-70, steer clear of Third Street/James St to I-35 as you’ll find yet another broken down vehicle affecting 240 feet of road starting from 7:14 p.m. A few updates later, at 8:23 p.m., the problem was still there, making a mess of things.

Hold on tight! We’ve got some crash reports as well. There was a spurt of activity on E 141st Street between South US 71 and I-49 North, bringing in some caution flashing “watch out!” warnings. The details showed the affected zone was about 230 feet, with reports coming in around 4:14 p.m.. Things were updated less than 10 minutes later—thankfully, it sounds like there was no major fallout.

Independence and Grandview: Join the Fray

In Independence, watch out for a broken down vehicle on I-70 from Noland Road to US-40. It’s cluttering a good chunk of road about 220 feet in size. Reports of this disheveled ride came in at 2:21 p.m., lingering until nearly 6:17 p.m.!

Grandview isn’t safe either! Shifting gears to the northbound lanes of I-40/US-71 near Main Street—the wreckage is impacting a whopping 0.80 miles and was reported around 6:06 p.m.. Is anyone out there actually making it home on time?

Time to Take it Easy

With so many broken down vehicles and crashes littering our roads, it’s wise for all drivers in Kansas City to remain cautious. The time it might take to detour can save you a heap of frustration. Keep an ear out for those updates and, wherever you’re going, perhaps consider leaving a bit earlier than usual.

Stay safe out there, Kansas City! And if you see anything that may need our attention, please don’t hesitate to report it. Happy driving!
