Hello, Kansas City! If you’re planning to drive around the city today, we’ve got the scoop on what’s happening out there on the roads. Whether you’re heading to work, running errands, or gearing up for a fun night out, it’s always good to be clued in on traffic conditions. Radar has shown a variety of incidents today, including some pesky breakdowns and a few crashes that have impacted travel times.
First up, drivers are dealing with a broken down vehicle on I-29/I-35 between Levee Road/Exit 5 and Bedford Road/Exit 5. This section of roadway, about 170 feet long, caught our notice around 11:42 p.m. last night, and an update came through shortly past midnight. Sometimes, those breakdowns can really put a damper on your evening commute.
But that’s not all. There’s another vehicle in distress on I-29/I-35 between East Front Street and Levee Road/Exit 5 as well, affecting a stretch of 270 feet. You guessed it—this one was also reported last night and had a quick follow-up at 11:54 p.m. Seems like that stretch of road has been a bit of a trouble zone!
In a more serious situation, there’s a crash to be aware of on northbound I-35 from I-635/Exit 231 to 24th Street/Exit 232. This is a longer stretch of roadway—590 feet impacted—after traffic alerts went out at 8:16 p.m. on Wednesday, with updates rolling in shortly after.
Another crash reported on northbound I-35, specifically from MO-1/Antioch Road/Exit 8 to Brighton Avenue/Exit 10, spans about 0.80 miles. The nature of these incidents can be harrowing, and this one was brought to our attention at 4:41 p.m. before receiving a further update.
A similar situation exists on I-35 in Olathe, where a broken down vehicle stretches from US-56/175th Street/Exit 210 to Lone Elm Road. This one affects a 360-foot stretch and is reported to be somewhat close to the previous incident.
For our readers in the Overland Park area, watch out for lane closures on northbound US-69 due to ongoing work. One lane is closed from 151st Street to College Boulevard impacting a lengthy 5.48 miles from the traffic alert released earlier today, with updates lagging on the progress.
Additionally, Harry Darby Memorial Highway is temporarily closed from I-70 exit 4B to I-635 South. This roadwork has been affecting roughly 920 feet of roadway since early Thursday morning. Safety comes first, so be mindful of detours!
So, Kansas City, as you hit the roads today, keep in mind that traffic is bound to delay travel times due to both crashes and breakdowns scattered across our highways. Stay updated, stay safe, and consider alternate routes if you can. We hope this rundown helps you navigate the busy streets a bit easier!
Thanks for joining us for this traffic update, and safe travels to you all! Remember, the more informed we are about our roads, the easier it is to get around. Until next time!
