A new monthly farmer’s market is coming to Kansas City with the promise of bringing fresh fruits, vegetables, and other essential goods closer to the people of the surrounding neighborhoods. This initiative is the Three Trails Farmer’s Market and its aim is to foster community involvement and connection in the Hickman Mills and Ruskin Heights area.
The market’s new venue will be at the Optimist Bingo Hall, nestled in the Ruskin Heights Shopping Center. The farmer’s market is set to launch on Saturday, August 17 and subsequent markets will be organized monthly there. Every market day promises not just fresh food but also a fun-filled day for families, with entertainment in the lineup and community resource booths to browse. Organizers are hopeful that these market events will boost community involvement and engagement.
“The reality is that many people in our area are grappling with bread and butter issues, so it can be tough to look beyond and aim for better things when the focus is merely on eating well,” said local organizer Angela Clardy-Forder. “Our aim with this event really is to nourish the neighborhood.” Angela’s words reflect a sincere hope that the Three Trails Farmer’s Market can contribute positively to the community.
Most people not just in Kansas City, but everywhere, have been eagerly waiting for the return of community markets. It has been a tough time globally and these markets offer more than just food, they offer normality and hope. The Three Trails Farmer’s Market promises to be a splendid addition to the neighborhood and bring people together over fresh food and fun.
The market is scheduled to be open on the third Saturday of every month from August onwards, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will also be music performances and kid-friendly activities to engage families. Moreover, this initiative doesn’t just focus on providing a market for fresh and healthy food products, but also a platform to local entrepreneurs and artisans to showcase their products.
Community markets have long been a hub for residents to interact while promoting local produce and businesses. They are not just marketplaces, they are places of interaction and community building. From the fresh and healthy produce to the new budding entrepreneurs trying to make their mark, the whole idea behind having these community markets is to ensure that the neighborhood gets to engage with each other frequently and in a healthy environment.
Thus promising, the Three Trails Farmer’s Market is gearing up for an amazing run. This monthly market is attempting to make a change in the local community, aiming to nourish the neighborhood in the best possible ways, and bring the community closer, all whilst promoting and supporting local businesses.
