Tennessee Playwrights Studio Presents THAT WOMAN – THE MONOLOGUE SHOW at KC Fringe

In a sensational display of theatrical brilliance, the Tennessee Playwrights Studio is set to present That Woman – The Monologue Show at KC Fringe. The show, featuring a series of stories told from the perspectives of women involved with President John F. Kennedy, marks the studio’s first stop on their 2024 Fringe Festival tour.

Compilation of Untold Stories

The Monologue Show, co-created by Molly Breen, director of Tennessee Playwright Studios, and Angela Gimlin, COO of Inebriated Shakespeare Theater Company, brings to the stage powerful narratives that have previously been neglected or deliberately suppressed. Ranging from haunting tales of broken dreams and deportation to empowering recounts of courage and resilience, the show intricately weaves together the stories of Ellen Rometsch, Blaze Starr, Mimi Alford, Mary Meyer, Judith Exner, and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

Award-Nominated Production

Nominated for three Nashville First Night Awards, including Outstanding Original Work, Play and Ensemble, That Woman – The Monologue Show has already received acclaim from both critics and audience members alike during its premiere at the Darkhorse Theater in 2022. The production’s upcoming stop at the renowned KC Fringe Festival further establishes the show as a contender in the international theatre circuit.

Talented Kansas City Actors

The Monologue Show relies on the talents of local Kansas City actors, namely Kisha Banister as Ellen Rometsch, Jessie Paxton as Blaze Starr, Lauren Smith as Mary Pinchot Meyer, Brioni Garvin as Judith Exner, and Jessica Whitfield as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Molly Breen also lends her talent to the production by taking on the role of Mimi Alford.

Rolling Out the Fringe Festival Tour

The Kansas City performance marks the start of an ambitious Fringe Festival Tour planned by the Tennessee Playwrights Studio. After their debut at the KC Fringe Festival, the talented ensemble of actors and playwrights will continue on to the St. Lou Fringe, MN Fringe, Philly Fringe, Rochester Fringe, Elgin Fringe, and more to be announced.

About the Actors

Kisha Banister, a former news anchor and reporter, is thrilled to make her theatre debut in this female-driven production. Molly Breen, who steers the play in her role as director, is equally excited about introducing the production to the Kansas City audience. Other talented performers include Brioni Garvin, a former theatre and psychology major at William Jewell, who is excited to be part of the show and Jessie Paxton, an independent theatre artist with a range of theatre exploits under her belt.
