Hey there, Kansas City! Are you ready to dive into some heartwarming stories that are just waiting to be told? This December, the Grain Valley Branch of the Mid-Continent Public Library is set to introduce an exciting addition to our community: a mobile recording booth called the “Tell Me a Story Pod.” This little gem is making its way from the Midwest Genealogy Center (MGC) to bring everyone the chance to share, document, and preserve their personal tales.
Starting in December, you’ll be able to step inside this cozy booth, which comfortably seats two adults, all for FREE during library hours! The idea behind the pod is simple yet powerful: it allows you to record a brief story about yourself or your loved ones, and you can even take home a free copy of the recording once you’re done. How cool is that?
If you feel inspired, you can choose to have your story archived in the MGC’s special Tell Me a Story Oral History Collection. This initiative is more than just a fun recording; it’s a valuable way to collect and preserve our community’s memories for future generations to treasure.
Think about it for a moment. History is often portrayed in books with facts and figures, but wouldn’t it be something else to hear those who lived it share their memories and emotions firsthand? That’s what the MGC hopes to achieve with this unique program.
“The Midwest Genealogy Center helps connect people with their past, but we also want to save stories for future generations to listen to and enjoy,” said one of the enthusiastic team members from MGC. They believe that it’s one thing to read about an event, but it’s an entirely different experience to hear about it from the ones who lived it.
Using the Tell Me a Story Pod is super easy! When you arrive, you’ll find release forms available to handle the archiving and possible publishing of your story. Just a quick heads-up, if you’re under 18, make sure to bring a parent or guardian to sign off on those forms.
Once you’re all set, the pod has clear instructions on how to start recording. After sharing your story, you can choose to receive your recorded masterpiece via mail or email – totally your choice!
If you’re itching to reserve your time in the Tell Me a Story Pod, simply give the Grain Valley Branch a call at 816-252-7228. Appointments are encouraged to ensure you don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity to capture your memories.
If you’ve ever wanted to share a story about a family heirloom, a memorable trip, or even a funny mishap that still makes you laugh, now’s your chance. This is not only a way to keep your personal history alive but also to bond with family and friends as you reminisce together.
The Tell Me a Story Pod is all about community, connection, and preserving our rich history. So grab a friend, tell your story, and make some unforgettable memories at the library. We can’t wait to hear all the wonderful stories that will come out of this unique experience!
