Hey Springfield! If you’re one of those lucky folks who enjoy the comfort of an inflatable spa in your backyard, you might want to pay attention to this important news. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall affecting around 866,000 AirJet and HydroJet Spa Pumps. This comes after some alarming incidents that have raised serious safety concerns.
So, what’s happening? The recall is mainly due to the fact that these spa pumps can overheat, which poses a risk of the plastic housing catching fire. Yes, you read that right! There have been at least three reported fires linked to these pumps, including one tragic house fire in January that resulted in a fatality and another incident that caused significant property damage. The good news? Fortunately, there are currently no additional injuries reported in association with these spa pumps, but that’s still a scary thought!
First things first, if you’ve got one of these pumps tucked away in your backyard or garage, stop using it immediately. The CPSC recommends that you get in touch with Bestway for a free replacement spa pump or you can opt for a refund of $100 if you own an AirJet spa pump or $189 for HydroJet models. Isn’t it nice when they offer a choice?
Now, let’s get to the nitty-gritty details of the recall. The inflatable spa liners sold with these pumps go by names like SaluSpa, Coleman, and Hydro-Force, and you can spot them by looking at the side of the liner. This recall specifically targets the AirJet and HydroJet Spa Pump model numbers: P05332, P05339, P05711, P05807, P07000, P07001, P05511, P07034, and P07572. If you see “Bestway” and any of these model numbers printed on the label either on the side or the back of your spa pump, it’s part of the recall.
These recalled spa pumps were quite popular and were sold alongside spa liners at various places like Bestway USA, Amazon, Costco, Walmart, Sam’s Club, QVC, RuralKing, and Spreetail, among others. They were available for purchase from May 2021 all the way through May 2024, with prices ranging between $400 and $790. The manufacturing of these pumps was done by Bestway (Hong Kong) International Ltd., based in China.
This recall serves as a crucial reminder to all spa enthusiasts out there that safety should always come first! Use this opportunity to check your equipment and ensure that everything is in good working order. If you have any concerns, or if you want to file a report about your spa pump, don’t hesitate to reach out directly to Bestway.
In the meantime, keep your spa experience relaxing and safe. It’s all about enjoying those peaceful moments after a long day, free from worry!
And remember, if you spot any mistakes or have additional information, feel free to report that too. Stay vigilant and enjoy your time soaking in the relaxation!
