South Kansas City is witnessing some significant changes in its business landscape as Luther Mazda, a prominent auto dealership, completes a massive $2.5 million renovation project in Martin City.
After acquiring the Premier Mazda dealership in 2022, Luther Mazda embarked on a comprehensive renovation journey at their 13900 Washington facility in Martin City, which took roughly a year. The renovation encompassed virtually every part of the dealership, excluding the shop.
Derek Goshien, the General Manager of Luther Mazda, outlined the wide-ranging improvements. “We remodeled every part of the dealership, save for the shop. The aim was to enhance our customer experience and streamline our operations. We added salespersons’ desks to have more product specialists to meet our guests’ needs efficiently. Additionally, we added more space in the parts department to increase our parts inventory and make more parts readily available.”
The renovation had a minimal impact on the dealership’s operations; sales and service staff continued operating from trailers on the site. Interestingly, this setup did not hinder Luther Mazda’s performance. The dealership experienced a significant boost in their business, tripling their total sales and increasing the service department revenue by over 40 percent since the acquisition.
The renovation is not the only initiative being undertaken. Goshien added, “We are also looking at repairing and repaving the entire parking lot in the coming months.”
Luther Mazda is a key player in the Luther Automotive Group portfolio, headquartered in Minnesota. The group has been serving customers since 1952 and hosts over twenty different locations, including a Mazda dealership right here in Lee’s Summit. Their diversified portfolio features a wide selection of new and used vehicles procured from nearly 30 different manufacturers. The south Kansas City dealership alone boasts a roster of 40 dedicated employees.
The investment in south Kansas City represents a significant vote of confidence in the region’s potential for growth, and local businesses and residents alike eagerly anticipate the positive impact of this redevelopment.
