Kansas City — The Lyric Opera of Kansas City has announced the availability of the world-premiere recording of ‘The Shining’, an opera composed by Paul Moravec and Mark Campbell. Based on the novel by Stephen King, this innovative and highly acclaimed rendition debuted in Kansas City at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in March 2023.
The Shining’s opera adaptation is the collaborative work of Pulitzer Prize winners Paul Moravec and Mark Campbell, notable for esteemed works like Silent Night, As One and The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs within the opera sphere. The production of this opera was deemed a grand success, lauded by critics and audiences alike. It gathered a star-studded lineup, featuring Edward Parks and Kelly Kaduce.
Breaking new grounds, the opera saw the debut of the internationally recognized Leonard Bernstein Award-winning conductor, Gerard Schwarz at Lyric Opera of Kansas City. He led the Kansas City Symphony through audacious performance. The debut also marked the appearances of renowned baritones Aubrey Allicock, Malcolm MacKenzie, and tenor Roger Honeywell at Lyric Opera.
