Second Juvenile Charged in Shaun Brady’s Homicide Makes First Court Appearance

Kansas City, MO

This morning in Kansas City, a 16-year-old juvenile charged in the *homicide of Shaun Brady* made his first court appearance. The session took place at the Family Justice Center, where Judge Jennifer Phillips presided over the case.

Details of the Court Appearance

The juvenile, currently facing charges of second-degree murder and attempted robbery, will remain in the juvenile detention center at least until the end of September. During the hearing, the juvenile was accompanied by his father and legal representation, who requested that he be monitored at the Hilltop Residential Center in Lee’s Summit. This request, however, was denied by the court.

Juvenile’s History and Arguments

Throughout the court proceedings, the prosecution highlighted the juvenile’s *troubled history*, which includes multiple incidents of trespassing, resisting arrest, and possession of a controlled substance. In total, there are at least 11 past incident reports associated with him from Hilltop.

In defense, the juvenile’s attorney maintained that he was merely a passenger in the vehicle during the incident and was not the one who fired the shots. The defense also pointed out that despite the juvenile’s past, there have been positive developments in his life over the last year, mentioning his participation in after-school programs, involvement with his church, and commitment to family responsibilities, including raising a child.

Next Steps in the Case

The case will proceed with a follow-up court date scheduled for September 25 at 9 a.m. as the judicial process continues for the second juvenile charged in this tragic incident.
