SEA LIFE Aquarium Kansas City Introduces New Endangered Guitarfish Species on National Endangered Species Day

SEA LIFE Aquarium Kansas City Welcomes New Species on National Endangered Species Day

Kansas City, MO – A New Friend for Endangered Species Day

The third Friday of May is observed as Endangered Species Day in the United States. Taking part in these celebrations, SEA LIFE Aquarium Kansas City announced the addition of a new species in its collection. Gibson, a fantastic four-foot-long shovelnose Guitarfish, will now call this popular aquarium in Kansas City her home. Prior to this, this intriguing aquatic creature was part of the SEA LIFE exhibit at the Mall of America in Minneapolis, MN.

Gibson, The Star of SEA LIFE Sanctuary Exhibit

In the SEA LIFE Sanctuary exhibit, Gibson will share her space with three Bonnethead Sharks. These sharks also become part of the aquarium during the summer of the preceding year. SEA LIFE Aquarium Kansas City mentioned that the giant shovelnose Guitarfish happens to be one of the numerous Guitarfish species that inhabit our oceans worldwide. Notably, depending upon the species and their habitat, their populations are considered as being almost threatened or in the state of acute danger, with some being critically endangered.

New Resident Marking a First for SEA LIFE Kansas City

Gibson achieving the status of the first shovelnose Guitarfish to become part of the SEA LIFE Kansas City is quite notable. Her inclusion underscores the commitment the aquarium has towards raising awareness and preservation of marine life, particulary endangered species.

More than Just an Addition to The Aquarium

The addition of Gibson to SEA LIFE Kansas City is not just about expanding the aquarium’s collection of exotic marine life. Introducing Gibson on the occasion of National Endangered Species Day carries a more profound message. This move draws the public’s attention towards the plight of these incredible creatures, encouraging collective action towards their conservation. It also serves as a reminder of our imperative duty to protect and cherish our planet’s biodiversity.

The Impact Across the Globe

Endangered Species Day is an opportunity to learn about the importance of protecting endangered species and their habitats. With SEA LIFE Kansas City stepping up, the event resonated far beyond Kansas City. By introducing a new resident from a threatened species, the aquarium brought attention to the global issue of species endangerment, motivating people across the nation and potentially across the globe to take action. SEA LIFE Aquarium Kansas City demonstrated that every step taken towards biodiversity preservation and sustainability can have an enormous impact, and that hope is particularly salient on this day set aside to recognize endangered species.
