Independence man, ‘leader’ in local scout troop, charged with child pornography
Kansas City, Mo. – Jackson County prosecutors have charged an Independence man, identified as a “leader in a local scout troop,” with five counts of possession of child pornography. Timothy Fry, 40, of Independence, was arrested and questioned by Independence police detectives regarding disturbing images and videos found on his iPhone.
Background
An anonymous tipster alerted Independence police about child sexual abuse material on Fry’s cell phone. Following the tip, an Independence police detective issued a Person of Interest Order for Fry. Subsequently, Fry was arrested after a car stop, where he was found in possession of the identified cell phone containing disturbing content.
Incident Details
Upon further investigation, it was discovered that a message thread on Fry’s phone revealed over 50 images of child pornography and 15 videos containing child sexual abuse material. During questioning, Fry admitted to downloading child sexual abuse material since he was 19 years old.
Legal Proceedings
Fry appeared in court, where a judge set his bond at $200,000. As part of his release conditions, Fry is prohibited from having contact with minors and accessing the internet. The case is ongoing, and further legal actions are expected to follow.
