Hello, Kansas City! If you’ve been loving this beautiful fall weather, here’s a friendly heads-up: today is your last chance to soak in pleasant temperatures and sunshine before a stretch of rain begins. After a lovely day filled with sunshine and temperatures peaking near 62 degrees, rain is expected to grace us starting Saturday, setting up camp for several days. So grab those sunglasses while you still can!
Today, you can expect a mostly sunny day, perfect for a stroll in the park or maybe even a cozy coffee date outside. But come Saturday afternoon, it’s all about the showers! The National Weather Service suggests that rain could start rolling in around 1 p.m. and might continue throughout the day. There’s even a small chance of thunderstorms as the evening draws near, so don’t forget your umbrella!
As we move into Sunday, lookout for the droplets to keep coming down. Kansas City may see a significant amount of rain, potentially accumulating up to 1.5 inches just on Sunday alone! Crazy, right? And while severe weather is not a major concern—so don’t panic—there’s always the possibility of a rumble of thunder or two on our doorstep.
The weather service is predicting that we could have an unusual amount of precipitation for this time of year, with models showing a staggering 90% chance of rainfall exceeding 2 inches through the 72-hour period that spans from Saturday night to Tuesday. To put a cherry on top of the weather cake, there’s a 85% chance we may even surpass 3 inches in certain parts of the metro area, particularly along Interstate 49.
As we head into the start of the week, not much will change. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue on Monday with highs around 68 degrees. That’s right; not only will we have rain, but we might also experience some rumbles in the sky! And for those of you hoping for a peaceful night, a thunderstorm is likely possible before the clock strikes 1 a.m..
On Tuesday, the weather really takes a turn with cooler air swooping in, and rainfall expected to be around until early afternoon. Expect a high of only 57 degrees—definitely a drop from what we’ve enjoyed lately!
While this week’s weather might not be what we had hoped for, let’s not forget that a little rain can make everything bloom even brighter in our beautiful city. So, as you prepare for this rainy stretch, take the time this evening or Saturday morning to enjoy the outdoors, maybe catch up with friends, or even start that book you’ve been meaning to get to.
Stay cozy and dry, Kansas City! We’ll make it through this rainy patch together and be back basking in the sunshine before we know it. Remember, after the rain, flowers bloom!
