Newly Released Footage Shows Delayed Police Response at Robb Elementary School

Details Revealed Through Body Cam Footage Released by Uvalde Police Department

UVALDE, Texas – Newly released footage from the Uvalde Police Department depicted a harrowing scene from the Robb Elementary School shooting incident on May 24, 2022. The body-worn camera footage confirmed a lengthy delay in the response time before the officers breached the classrooms. This revelation follows the legal battle ensued by numerous media outlets that sought access to the records pertaining to the police response.

The footage, made public in response to the media-led lawsuit, also included dash camera videos, emergency radio transmissions, written records, and 911 calls. Altogether, these records paint a chilling picture of the event, during which a gunman had entered the school and opened fire, leaving 19 children and two teachers dead, marking it as the deadliest school shooting in the history of Texas.

Delayed Police Response Shown in Newly Released Footage

Notably, the video evidenced that officers waited in the school’s hallways while frantic 911 calls about an active gunman were being made from inside the school. Despite receiving numerous calls from terrified children within the classroom seeking help, the breach by the officers came around 70 minutes after the shooter had already entered the school.

The released footage encompassed 12 videos from body-worn cameras of five officers who were on the scene. Sergeant Daniel Coronado’s footage, which spanned about two hours, illustrated the pivotal moment of when the officers stormed the classrooms at approximately 12:50 p.m., more than an hour after the shooter has intruded the school at around 11:33 a.m.

Exchanges Amidst Nitense Police Action

The intensity of the operation was palpable in the footage. As the officers entered the classroom, an officer can be heard exclaiming, “There’s a helicopter looking up there. Oh my God, please.” Swiftly, the scene turned chaotic with loud gunfire and shouting. Officers can be heard yelling “Kids!”, “EMT!”, and “Bring me the children!”. Upon inquiry about the gunman’s location, an officer responded, “He’s dead.”

Respect for the Victims’ Families

Despite the large volume of videos and audio released, some content has been consciously left out by media outlets, in order to respect the victims’ families. Specifically, they have refrained from releasing 911 calls made by the school students during the fateful incident.

Summarizing A Horrific Incident

The footage and other related records serve as a grim reminder of the tragic incident that unfolded at the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde. As investigators delve deeper into the incident, the hope remains to ensure that such a horrifying event never repeats itself, in any school, anywhere.
