Hey there, movie buffs and fans of the beloved Kansas City! It seems Kansas City has something to celebrate, and it’s all about our very own Paul Rudd. You might know him as the charming superhero from the Marvel universe, but it turns out he just added another feather to his cap by being inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame. Yes, that’s right! On Saturday, Rudd stepped into the spotlight alongside other big names, including the legendary Meryl Streep and famed director Kevin Smith.
So, what does it take to get into the New Jersey Hall of Fame? Well, anyone who has roots in the Garden State is eligible! That means if you were born, raised, or even just lived in New Jersey at some point, you could be honored here. Rudd, who hails from Passaic and spent his childhood in Palisades Park, is a perfect fit. His family made their way to New Jersey after emigrating from England, and he still cherishes those connections. “My grandparents are buried in Paramus; I feel deeply connected,” he shared.
The angelic voices of the honorees filled the halls earlier this year when they filmed their acceptance speeches at the New Jersey Hall of Fame, located inside the fabulous American Dream entertainment and retail center in East Rutherford. How cool is that? Oh, and by the way, visitors can chat with holograms of Jersey greats like Jon Bon Jovi and Danny DeVito. Talk about a unique experience!
While Rudd was relishing his induction, he kept the mood light. He jokingly reflected on how his life could be summed up by “the opening credits of ‘The Sopranos.’” And he couldn’t resist poking fun at his potential Hall of Fame tribute. “What if my name ended up on a pay phone or an ATM somewhere?” he mused, showcasing his signature humor.
Though Paul Rudd has roots stretching all the way back to his homeland in New Jersey, he’s certainly embraced Kansas as well. After his father’s job in management for TWA whisked the family off to Kansas, Rudd found himself settling in Overland Park and later cheering on the Kansas Jayhawks as a college student at the University of Kansas. And let’s not forget his unwavering loyalty to the Kansas City Chiefs team! Rudd has been spotted celebrating in their locker rooms after victory parades, like the moment he got drenched in champagne after the Royals won the World Series in 2015!
When preparing for his acceptance speech, Rudd made sure he was armed with the right lingo, brushing up on how to refer to the locals. “I looked it up to confirm it is ‘New Jerseyans’ and not the other versions,” he laughed. And while he’s a comedian at heart, the last thing he wanted was to be misunderstood when mentioning people from the state. After all, “demonym” might sound a bit off to some folks!
All in all, Paul Rudd’s induction into the New Jersey Hall of Fame is yet another chapter in the story of this multi-talented actor. Whether he’s charming us on the big screen or making us giggle with his quick wit, he remains a proud product of both Kansas City and New Jersey. Here’s to more accolades and heartfelt moments for our favorite superhero – cheers, Paul! You continue to make both your homelands proud.
