Kansas City– Big news for commuters in the city as the final stages of work on the Independence Avenue and Paseo Boulevard intersection, part of the Paseo Gateway project, are drawing to a close. Motorists can expect the intersection to be ready for traffic around the July 4th holiday weekend, weather permitting.
Subcontractor crews are wrapping up the labor this month. One crew has been assigned the responsibility of beautifying the spot with lush landscaping and plantings, while another crew is making sure the paving, sidewalks, curbs, and lighting are correctly set up.
The project, which has been in operation for almost a decade, faced numerous underground utility delays recently, slowing down its anticipated completion rate. Further setbacks were avoided, paving the way for the final steps of the project to progress swiftly.
Administered by LISC, the Paseo Gateway project has seen significant changes in its area of operation over its long journey. It has led to the demolition of two motels on The Paseo, the Chouteau Courts housing project, and the relocation of its tenants to newer housing options. The Independence Avenue and Paseo Boulevard intersection, improved and upgraded, is an integral part of this project.
Furthermore, an RFP (Request For Proposal) for the formerly known Chouteau Courts/Belvedere Park site was recently closed on the city’s website. The RFP called for development proposals for the roughly 15-acre site. The details of these development proposals will be made available to the public once they have been finalized.
This project represents a substantial step forward for the infrastructure of Kansas City. Soon, the Indep/Paseo intersection will be able to serve motorists with improved access and traffic flow. The intersection project, complemented by the wider Paseo Gateway project, reaffirms the city’s commitment to improving the quality of life for all its residents.
