New Hotel Brings Kansas City Culture to the Berkley Riverfront
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The much-anticipated Origin Hotel has officially opened its doors at the stunning Berkley Riverfront! Welcome to a new chapter in the revitalization of this beautiful area along the Missouri River, just a stone’s throw from downtown Kansas City. The hotel opened its doors on October 2 and represents a big step forward in making the riverfront a vibrant spot for locals and tourists alike.
A Unique Touch of Local Flavor
The Origin Hotel isn’t just any hotel; it’s specially designed to capture the essence of Kansas City. Each of the hotel’s rooms features hints of local culture that guests can’t help but appreciate. You’ll find art on the walls that pays homage to Charlie Hustle’s iconic heart, an essential part of Kansas City’s vibe. Even the entrance boasts a beautiful fountain designed by a local artist, making you feel right at home amidst the city’s charm.
A Community Affair
Director of Sales, Katie Tiegreen, who is proudly from Kansas City, shared her enthusiasm about the transformation of the area. “Even speaking with my dad about where the hotel was, he’s like, ‘You mean the old dump site?'” she said with a chuckle. It’s heartwarming to see how much the city has evolved, igniting hope for the future. Tiegreen added, “It’s pretty cool to see people’s faces and how much it’s grown. It’s really becoming the area of Kansas City where people want to be.”
Riding the Wave of Excitement
Though the hotel opened during a quieter season, it’s already stirring up excitement in the area. With the Kansas City Current women’s professional soccer team as their neighbors, weekends are buzzing with activity. During the Current’s highly anticipated first postseason game, the hotel was completely sold out, ringing up all 118 of its rooms! It’s not just soccer that’s bringing in guests; the Chiefs and Jayhawks also played that weekend, adding to the hotel’s attraction.
Dustin Weber, the hotel’s general manager, noted, “Probably just the soccer games alone, it’s usually about 60% of everyone that stays in the hotel, and it also brings a lot of new visitors to Kansas City that don’t even realize what CPKC Stadium is.”
Gearing Up for More Fun
The future looks incredibly bright for the Origin Hotel with more exciting projects on the horizon. A nearby streetcar line is set to open soon, and a new beer garden is currently under construction, both of which will bring even more foot traffic to the area. Weber is optimistic, stating, “The streetcar definitely will help us out a lot. Just people who can get on the streetcar and go all the way down to the Plaza.”
Community Support and Anticipation
Residents of the Berkley Riverfront area are also buzzing about the influx of visitors. Olivia Oestreich, a local resident, remarked, “I like seeing a lot more people. It was good to see it start slowly coming together.” The growing community and the hotel’s presence are making this part of Kansas City feel even more alive.
The Perfect Spot for Dining
And it’s not just about having a place to stay! The hotel features a brand-new restaurant called Show Pony. With an executive chef who has a stellar resume, including time at Kansas City’s famed American Restaurant, diners can expect a delicious culinary experience that reflects the best of local flavors.

The Origin Hotel at Berkley Riverfront is more than just a place to rest your head; it’s a beacon of community, culture, and excitement in Kansas City. With the perfect mix of local charm, entertainment, and residents eager for change, this hotel is charting a fresh new course for the riverfront area.
