‘Act of Kindness’: KC’s Operation BBQ Relief Prepares to Assist Texas Storm Victims
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Following the destructive impact of former Hurricane Beryl, local non-profit organization Operation BBQ Relief is preparing to lend a helping hand to Texas citizens by providing hot meals to the storm victims.
Tropical Storm Beryl leaves millions without power
On Monday, former Hurricane Beryl wreaked havoc in Texas, resulting in power outages for 2.7 million customers and claiming the lives of 11 people. Subsequently, Beryl was downgraded to a tropical storm. Consequently, non-profit organizations such as Operation BBQ Relief have responded to help those impacted.
Scouting Areas of Greatest Need
“We are scouting out the areas that have the greatest need,” said Stan Hays, CEO and Founder of the Kansas City based organization. Hays estimates that they might distribute 10,000 to 15,000 meals per day in Texas. The organization’s initial focus will be to serve first responders and search and rescue teams before making their presence known more widely within the affected communities.
As Hays elaborates, “We’re working with the state of Texas and emergency management to ensure that where we’re going is also where they see the biggest need.” Adding further to this, Hays expresses excitement over the prospect of helping those most in need. Many residents have already sent appeals for help, emphasizing the dire need for extra support.

“At the end of the day there is something very fulfilling about the reaction you see and feel from someone you know can never repay you for that act of kindness,” shared Hays, highlighting the sentiment of altruism that drives the organization.
