KANSAS CITY, Mo – A brand-new nightlife hub is about to add vibrant colors to the city’s vivacious Westport neighborhood. Spearheaded by renowned community figure, Lance Pierce, Q Kansas City is set to be a nightclub designed to cater to the LGBTQ+ community, but invites everyone seeking an inclusive and inviting space.
Pierce, known for hosting popular Queer Bar Takeovers across the city over the past eight years, gave an exclusive tour of the space located at 504 Westport Rd. With an infectious enthusiasm, he spoke about his new venture and how the surrounding neighborhood was already showing their support.
“The other day I took Pride flags to all the other bar owners to say hi, introduce myself,” said Pierce. “They all have been absolutely amazing and so welcoming. They’ve already put the flags up and are super excited for the Pride Parade this weekend. We are super excited to welcome the community to this space.”
Pierce’s Queer Bar Takeovers have been about reclaiming spaces across the city, transforming them into a vibrant atmosphere for a night. Now, the seasoned host is ecstatic about finally having a permanent location to provide a constant inclusive spot for the LGBTQ+ community and allies.
Pierce envisions Q Kansas City as a place where everyone feels welcome. To achieve this, he is inviting the community to partake in shaping the club. This includes providing advice and feedback about what they want to see in the space.
“Community members can come in, hear the vision for the space, give us feedback, give us advice on what things they want to see and how they want to see it,” explained Pierce. “That process will continue even after we open to make sure that as new generations come in to the queer community, we are continuing to listen, be current, and create space.”
Amidst the renovation, passers-by are invited to leave encouraging notes on the windows. Pierce believes this gesture not only builds anticipation but helps shape the future environment of the club. One such advice offered was the placement of earplugs at the front desk for those who might be overstimulated by the music or atmosphere – a suggestion Pierce praised as an example of ‘caring for the guests’.
The eager community is invited to see the space in its pre-transformation phase before the KC Pride Parade this Saturday. The finalized club will include a dance floor, two outdoor spaces, and a special speakeasy. The aim is to provide a sanctuary where walls can be put down, transcending into a space of joy, connection, and community.
Even as Q Kansas City lies in wait for its grand opening later this year, Pierce assured that the cherished Queer Bar Takeovers will continue to happen once a month, solidifying the new nightclub as not just a business venture, but a commitment to the community.
With its doors set to open later this year, Q Kansas City promises to be a place of celebration and joy for all. As anticipations build, the community continues to rally behind the new nightclub making it a welcome new addition to Kansas City’s diverse estport neighborhood.
