Riverside Approves Plans for New Hotel to Accompany Kansas City Current Training Complex

Exciting Developments in Riverside: A New Hotel for the Kansas City Current

Riverside is buzzing with excitement this week as the city has given the green light for an exciting new project by the Kansas City Current. That’s right! Plans have been approved for a stunning five-story hotel that will be located just northwest of the team’s state-of-the-art training complex. This hotel is the first of its kind to be developed around the $18 million training facility that opened its doors in June 2022.

The Details of the Hotel

On Tuesday, the Riverside Board of Aldermen approved a final development plan for the new hotel, which will be a 134-room Hilton Garden Inn. It will occupy about 3.39 acres across Teal Rising Way from the training complex. Imagine a modern hotel that comes in with a sleek design featuring black metal and wood panels—this aesthetic is specifically tailored to resonate with the materials of the Current’s training facility. How cool is that?

The hotel will not just be a place to stay; it will also have some fantastic amenities! Guests can look forward to enjoying nine extended-stay rooms, a welcoming ground-floor bar and restaurant, a pool for relaxation, and almost 2,500 square feet of meeting and conference space. Additionally, there will be a charming outdoor terrace connected to these spaces—perfect for soaking in some sun or enjoying the fresh air during meetings.

Timeline and Future Prospects

As for when we can expect this sparkling new hotel to welcome its first guests, it might be sooner than you think. According to Mike Duffy, Riverside’s community development director, there is a possibility that construction could break ground as early as November. If everything goes according to plan, the hotel could open its doors to the public by early 2026—just in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which has Riverside’s training complex as a potential base camp!

This is not just great news for travelers and guests; Mayor Kathy Rose shared her enthusiasm at the meeting, highlighting how this hotel will serve not only visitors but also benefit local businesses. “It’s going to be a beautiful amenity down there, and it’s going to serve a lot of people that have businesses down there as well as all the activities and events that will be held at the Current facility,” she noted.

The Bigger Picture

The Kansas City Current’s training complex is already a hub of activity, featuring a 17,600-square-foot team facility that includes a weight room, training room, massage room, kitchen, and office space. Besides that, it houses two grass pitches and five artificial turf practice fields. This training complex occupies roughly 25 of the 51 acres designated for the project, with additional plans for commercial development on another 25 acres. Future developments could include additional soccer fields and even some new restaurants—talk about turning the area into a lively community hotspot!

In addition to the hotel, Riverside has plans for a massive $119.7 million Live Nation outdoor amphitheater that will seat around 15,000 people, which is also expected to break ground soon. Nestled about a stone’s throw away from the training complex, this venue will surely boost Riverside’s entertainment offerings.

With all these exciting projects in the pipeline, Riverside is setting itself up to be an even more incredible destination for both residents and visitors. So mark your calendars and stay tuned—this is just the beginning of something truly special!
