Missouri Senator Rizzo Resigns, Prepares for Role at Jackson County Sports Authority

Missouri Senate Minority Leader, John Rizzo of District 11, Jackson County, has resigned, announces an official press release from his office. Rizzo submitted his resignation to Missouri Gov. Mike Parson on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, established to be effective at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2024.

“It has been an honor to represent the citizens, communities, and businesses of Jackson County in the Missouri General Assembly for the past 14 years“, said Rizzo in his resignation letter, “and to work with my colleagues to fulfill our state’s motto of letting ‘…the good of the people be the supreme law’.”

A New Role for Rizzo

Despite leaving public office, the 43-year-old Rizzo won’t be stepping out of the public spotlight anytime soon. The legislator has secured a position as the executive director of the Jackson County Sports Authority. He will be replacing Jim Rowland, who retired from the position earlier this year.

Rizzo has signed a contract according to the Sports Authority Board Chairman Shawn Foster, with his role set to begin at the upcoming organization meeting on July 16, 2024.

Tackling Sports Challenges

Entering the sports arena, the seasoned leader, Rizzo, prepares to take over Jackson County Sports Authority during a time when both Jackson County and the state of Missouri are keen about engaging in the discussions on the future stadiums for the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals.

Rizzo’s Political Career

Rizzo began his political path when he was first elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in 2011. He served his tenure until 2016 when he decided to run for the Missouri Senate successfully. Rizzo’s 11th district seat was supposed to be up for grabs in the coming fall elections. However, he had not filed for re-election.

A Race for the Seat

The open seat has already seen a number of contenders. Among the Democrats, Robert Sauls has already filed for the seat. On the Republican side, candidates – Aaron McMullen, Joe Nicola, and David Martin will be looking forward to the August primary to determine the party’s candidate for the November general elections.
