Kansas City Unveils Midland Lofts: A Modern Revitalization of Historical Urban Living

Kansas City Welcomes Midland Lofts: A New Era of Urban Living

Exciting news is buzzing around Kansas City as over 130 newly renovated apartments have officially opened in the vibrant Power & Light District. The grand opening of the stylish Midland Lofts took place on Wednesday, September 18, marking the transformation of a historic office building into a modern living space. This project is a significant step for the city’s urban development, and the anticipation is palpable!

Bringing History Back to Life

The Cordish Companies, in collaboration with the Power & Light District, have done an incredible job breathing new life into the historic Midland Office Building. This classic structure, which first opened its doors in 1927, has now been revamped into 135 beautiful loft-style apartments. The design retains the essence of its rich history while offering modern amenities, creating a space where residents can truly feel at home in the heart of the city.

John Sweeney, managing director of Residential for The Cordish Companies, shared his enthusiasm, stating, “It is an honor to bring the historic Midland Office Building back to life as Midland Lofts, and remarkable to look back and see how far we’ve come over the last 15 years.” He noted that leasing activity has exceeded expectations, with over 80% of the apartments already leased and about half of the residents coming from outside the Kansas City metro area. This influx showcases the city’s growing appeal to both employers and students nationwide.

Ideal Location and Modern Amenities

Strategically located at the corner of 13th and Baltimore Avenue, Midland Lofts connects tenants with popular local attractions including the Midland Theatre, Cosentino’s Downtown Market, and Kansas City Live!. The apartments feature an inviting open-concept design, with upscale finishes that reflect the unique character of the building. Residents can also enjoy a collection of amenities that enhance their downtown living experience.

Mayor Quinton Lucas spoke passionately about the impact of Midland Lofts at the grand opening ceremony, highlighting the transformation of the area. He expressed his excitement about the project, saying, “This is among some of the most beautiful spaces I’ve seen, and I look forward to people getting to live in this fabulous building.” The mayor’s vision for Kansas City’s growth and development resonates well with the opening of Midland Lofts as a stunning example of adaptable use of historic spaces.

Combining Affordability with Elegance

The efforts made to preserve the building’s history while making it accessible to more residents have not gone unnoticed. Emelyna Aurich, director of Property Management for Cordish Living, remarked, “Midland Lofts has brought many units to the Power & Light District that are priced below $1,000 per month.” This initiative aligns with the overarching goal of creating housing that meets the needs of the city’s workforce.

The apartments come equipped with top-notch features including quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances, and expertly designed bathroom spaces. The interior design reflects a perfect blend of modern comforts and historical charm, making it an attractive option for those looking to reside in downtown Kansas City.

Celebrating Kansas City’s Identity

As part of that celebration, a curated collection of art commissioned to honor performers at the Midland Theatre will be showcased throughout the building, further connecting residents to the rich culture of Kansas City. The involvement of local architectural firm Helix in the design process ensures that the aesthetics of the Midland Lofts resonate with the vibrancy of the city.

A Bright Future Ahead

Since the opening of the Power & Light District, Kansas City has gained national recognition for its urban revival. With an impressive $9.7 billion investment fueling growth over the last 15 years, over 34,000 new residents have made downtown their home. Midland Lofts adds to this success story, as it is poised to continue driving the momentum for further developments in the area.

John Moncke, president of Kansas City Power & Light, remarked on the significance of this project, stating, “Midland Lofts marries the rich history of Kansas City with a modern, elegant lifestyle.” With this project, Kansas City embraces a future filled with opportunities for residents, offering a mix of luxury and accessibility.

For anyone interested in experiencing the buzz of urban living, Midland Lofts is undoubtedly the place to be. With a harmonious blend of history, beauty, and modernity, it promises to be a welcoming backdrop for countless stories to unfold in the heart of Kansas City.
