Mattie Rhodes Center Combines Youth Soccer and Health Fair in Upcoming ‘Healthy Kicks’ Event this Weekend

Healthy Kicks this weekend with the Mattie Rhodes Center

Introduction

The city is buzzing with excitement as the Mattie Rhodes Center plans to host a unique combination of physical activity and health awareness. Dexterously blending youth soccer with a health fair, the event aptly titled ‘Healthy Kicks’ will open its doors this Saturday, April 13th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Prospect Plaza Park.

Community Fun and Health Fair

The event has a lot to offer participants of all ages, ranging from kindergarten kids to high school seniors. The highlights of the day promise to be a youth Futsal tournament and a free health fair. Director of Community Development at the Mattie Rhodes Center, Scott Wagner, was fervent in his belief that an introduction to available health services at the event could significantly benefit the overall wellness of the Historic Northeast community. “If people were to give this area a chance and allow themselves to be introduced to what is here, I think they would be surprised,” Wagner said.

La Clinica De Mattie Rhodes

The Mattie Rhodes Center, a vital community cornerstone for nearly 130 years, extends its services to a special demographic, offering a clinic for Spanish speakers – ‘La Clinica De Mattie Rhodes’. Ensuring that their services are accessible to all, they do not require patients to have health insurance. In place of insurance, the center charges a nominal fee of $35 per visit. This sentiment of inclusivity was shared by Mattie Rhodes Addiction Specialist, Molly Manske. “Our biggest goal is to make sure that our services match the needs of the community,” said Manske.

Diverse Services

The clinic offers a range of treatments, starting from consultation on acute and chronic conditions, labs at discounted rates, Spanish-speaking providers and primary care for all ages. La Clinica is open on Fridays from noon to 4:30 p.m. at Mattie Rhodes Center (MRC) at 148 N. Topping in the Indian Mound neighborhood. The health services are available by appointment only.

Conclusion

Whether it’s a day out in the park participating in a soccer tournament or learning about health services that can benefit them, the ‘Healthy Kicks’ event by the Mattie Rhodes Center is bound to offer something for everyone. This event is yet another demonstration of the focused commitment of the Mattie Rhodes Center towards serving their community. As Manske succinctly put it, “We’re an organization that is for the community and by the community. The Northeast is very diverse… having an organization like Mattie Rhodes in the community is super important.”
