Margaret Cho Kicks Off Pride Month with a Performance in Kansas City Amidst 40th Stand-Up Comedy Anniversary Celebrations

Kansas City, Margaret Cho Starts Pride Month with a Blast

Well-renowned comedian Margaret Cho is girding up for one busy summer, starting off Pride Month in Kansas City with a bang. The multi-talented performer has scheduled a three-night performance of her new show, “Live & Livid,” as part of her 40th anniversary celebrations in the stand-up comedy industry.

Cho’s Exciting Summer Lineup

Margaret Cho’s new show will be staged at The Comedy Club of Kansas City from May 31 to June 2. When asked about her plans for the celebratory month, Cho revealed she has a remarkable lineup scheduled, including three films at the Tribeca Film Festival.

One of these includes a feature called “All That We Love,” which she described as a truly beautiful film. The accomplished comedian will also participate in a Netflix documentary exploring the history of queer comedy. The icing on the cake─ a short, horror film named “Family Guide to Hunting” that promises to stun audiences.

Yielding to her Asian-ness

In the midst of her loaded schedule, Cho still finds time for family. Notably, she shared a bit about her Asian heritage and her mom’s role in their life. According to Cho, her mom represents the voice of her Asian roots and was an early gay activist, owning a gay bookstore in the ’70s. She attributes their earthiness, humor, and cantankerous nature to their character and charm, terms that have become synonymous with the immigrant experience.

Celebrating 40 Years of Stand-up Comedy

With this year marking her 40th anniversary in stand-up comedy, Margaret reflected on her journey and shared some wisdom for her younger self. She mentioned how she carried a lot of burden and often took things too seriously. She concluded that she wishes she had enjoyed the journey more and worried less.

The One-Woman Show

Aside from her stand-up-related work, Margaret has taken on the ambitious challenge of putting together a one-woman show, aptly titled “Mommy: A One Woman Cho.” Set to be workshopped in July at the New York Stage and Film Festival, the show includes impressions of her mother, herself, and her mother’s sisters ─ a mix of impressions fans of her comedy routines will be familiar with.

Cho’s Wish-list of Future Works

Margaret revealed her aspirations to host her own talk show, draw on her experiences interviewing celebrities on the red carpet, and opportunities she received following the passing of Joan Rivers.

Besides this, she cited her desire to be part of “Hacks,” a hit comedy series, again. In addition, she expressed an interest in K-drama and her excitement about the possibility of being part of the upcoming season of True Detective.

Rounding up the Interview

The interview then moved toward lighter subjects, including her love for Taylor Swift and being a die-hard Swiftie. As in her life and work, Cho spreads positivism and joy in her words, expressing her desire for Swift to be happy.

Finally, on the subject of her love language, Margaret revealed her connection with living things─ plants and animals. A keen gardener, she transfers her care for living beings into her garden, which she affectionately cares for alongside her pets.

From her charming sense of humor to her myriad interests and projects, Margaret Cho continues to be an engaging and active fixture in the entertainment world. As she embarks on her 40th year in comedy, she carries with her a packed schedule that will doubtlessly thrill her audiences.
