The Lyric Opera of Kansas City has revealed an exciting and diverse lineup for its 2024-2025 season. The brilliant selection of performances set to hit the stage at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts includes renowned productions such as The Brightness of Light, a concert with acclaimed artists Renée Fleming and Rod Gilfry, The Barber of Seville, Cruzar la cara de la Luna, and Turandot.

The season commences with Pulitzer Prize winner Kevin Puts’ masterpiece, The Brightness of Light. The musical event of the season features Renée Fleming and Rod Gilfry, and is based on love letters between renowned painter Georgia O’Keeffe and her husband, the celebrated photographer Alfred Stieglitz. This touching narrative is a testament to the enduring power of love and its ability to transcend time and space.
Following this is Rossini’s timeless comic opera, The Barber of Seville. Known for its comedic brilliance, The Barber of Seville continues the enchanting appeal of Lyric Opera’s offerings with its vibrant narrative and familiar melodies.
Next in line is the Kansas City premiere of the groundbreaking mariachi opera, Cruzar la cara de la Luna, crafted by José “Pepe” Martínez and Leonard Foglia. This theatrical masterpiece weaves themes of love, family, and place, accompanied by the Grammy-Award winning mariachi band Mariachi los Camperos, adding a unique and vibrant musical texture to the story.
The season finale arrives in grand fashion with Puccini’s Turandot. The operatic spectacle has not been performed since the debut season at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts and promises to leave audiences thrilled with its lofty story, beautiful music, and dazzling set design.
The Lyric Opera of Kansas City extends an invitation to all opera enthusiasts to participate in pre-opera talks, community conversations, and Opera Dives Deep sessions, free series that offer audiences fresh insights to enrich their appreciation and understanding of the shows.
Subscription for the 2024-2025 season includes all four showcases. Subscribers are offered 20% off single ticket prices and priority access to seats.
