KC Streetcar Construction Causes 4-Week Traffic Disruption Near Union Station

KC Streetcar Construction to Interrupt Traffic Near Union Station for 4 Weeks

Published: April 18, 2024

KANSAS CITY, Mo

Beginning April 18, the bustling intersection near Union Station is set to experience a traffic disruption due to the ongoing construction of the KC Streetcar tracks. As per the announcement made by KC Streetcar Constructors, sections of Persing Rd. East of Main St. will be temporarily closed from next week Thursday, April 25. This decision is a necessary step towards achieving the completion of the Pershing Crossover.

Traffic Diversion and Accessibility

During this period, traffic will be re-routed through Broadway, Southwest, 20th, Grandview, and 27th St. The construction work is scheduled to last approximately four weeks, dependent on weather conditions. Despite the disruption, local businesses surrounding Union Station will remain open and accessible to customers and employees alike.

Pedestrian Navigation and the Streetcar Operations

Notably, pedestrians will need to make some changes to their routes. The crosswalks on the north and east of the Pershing and Main St. intersection will be closed throughout the construction period. Instead, pedestrians are advised to use the south and west crosswalks to navigate through the intersection. A midblock crosswalk at the signal just north of the intersection will also be available for use.

Despite the challenges posed by the construction work, Streetcar operations will remain unaffected. As such, daily commuters relying on the KC Streetcar need not worry about major disruptions to their schedules.

In Conclusion

The construction work at the intersection near Union Station is indicative of the city’s commitment to enhancing community mobility. Despite the temporary traffic disruptions, it offers a promising outlook for future improvements in local transportation. Stay tuned for further updates on developments in and around the Kansas City area.
