KANSAS CITY, MO –

Folk music enthusiasts from Kansas City and beyond descended on Washington Square Park over the weekend for the KC Folk Fest, a celebration of culture, arts, and dance.

The KC Folk Fest, which ran from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, attracted fans of folk music eager to enjoy live performances, storytelling, poetry, workshops, food trucks, and a bustling craft market. The event was free, family-friendly, and open to all ages.

Grassroots Festival for Folk-music Fans

Founded and initially hosted by Folk Alliance International, the KC Folk Fest has been an independent, non-profit event since 2022. The festival is dedicated to promoting earth-friendly practices and creating a joyous, inclusive atmosphere for all attendees.

A Celebrated Lineup for 2024

This year’s festival featured an impressive lineup of folk musicians and artists. Talents in the spotlight included Aruesta Del Solsoul, Madisen Ward, Love, Mae C., Jass, and Weda Skirts, among others. Audience members were also treated to creative demos, dance performances from Shashwat Chaurasia, and poetic recitations from C. Woods, Mary Silwance, and Shari “Purpose” Hall.

A Feature in the Cultural Calendar

The KC Folk Fest has grown in popularity over the past few years, becoming a highly anticipated annual celebration that adds a splash of color to Kansas City’s cultural calendar.

Looking Ahead to Next Year

As fans say their farewell to this year’s festival, planning is already underway for next year’s edition. The organizers hope to feature even more artists and activities, continuing to deepen the community’s connection with folk music and other forms of cultural expression.
