Kansas City Honors 25 Years of Empowering Women Through Women of Influence Program

Kansas City Celebrates 25 Years of Women of Influence

Kansas City was buzzing with energy last Thursday as a remarkable event took place at The Midland Theatre. It was a gathering of inspiring women from all walks of life, coming together to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Kansas City Business Journal’s Women of Influence program (previously known as Women Who Mean Business). From accomplished leaders to up-and-coming trailblazers, the atmosphere was nothing short of electric!

An Evening to Remember

The celebration was more than just a party; it was a heartfelt reunion for all the past honorees of the program. Women from 25 classes of the Women of Influence program came together to reflect on the program’s evolution and the personal connections it has fostered over the years. The event was generously sponsored by Commerce Bank and Delta Dental of Kansas, who were instrumental in making it happen.

Guests arrived in high spirits, eager to reconnect with friends and colleagues alike. The rich history of the program was front and center, as the room filled with stories of perseverance, leadership, and mutual support. Many attendees noted how this program has become a powerful network for women in the Kansas City area.

What Is Women of Influence?

It’s worth noting that the Women of Influence program honors 25 remarkable women leaders from various local companies and nonprofit organizations each year. The program sets itself apart by not just recognizing these women during their annual awards luncheon, but also by creating meaningful opportunities for new honorees to engage with program alumni. This year, the luncheon in August attracted a jaw-dropping crowd of over 800 guests, which included more than 100 program alumni!

The event celebrated the achievements of women who are making a significant impact in their fields, and the camaraderie was palpable. It’s become clear over the years that the Women of Influence program is much more than awards—it’s a community.

A Powerful Name Change

This year was also significant for another reason. During the luncheon, Stacie Prosser, the Publisher and Market President, announced a name change from Women Who Mean Business to Women of Influence. The motive? To honor the evolving impact the program has had on both the business and civic communities in Kansas City.

Insights and Encouragement

Alongside the anniversary celebrations, alumni participated in engaging panel discussions. These sessions provided a platform for women to share their personal journeys, highlighting valuable lessons that could inspire all women in the area. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many attendees expressing gratitude for the support and encouragement they received through the program.

As the evening drew to a close, there was a sense of unity and drive among the guests. The atmosphere radiated hope and commitment to continue uplifting one another, no matter where they are on their professional paths.

What Lies Ahead?

Looking forward, the Women of Influence program is set to continue its tradition of empowering women leaders in Kansas City. Exciting upcoming events will keep the network vibrant and engaged, with plans already underway for next year’s class of honorees.

Kansas City is fortunate to have such a dedicated program that not only recognizes but also actively supports women in business. Here’s to another 25 years of bringing women together, celebrating their success, and creating ripples of influence throughout the community!
