Kansas City Faces a Chilly Weekend Ahead!
Hey there, Kansas City! If you haven’t already noticed, things have cooled down a bit around here. Yes, we’re finally feeling the crispness of winter in the air, and it seems like the metro area is in for a brisk weather rollercoaster ride over the next few days!
First Freezing Note Since March!
So, guess what? As of 2 a.m. Friday, Kansas City temperatures dipped into the 20s for the first time since the end of March! Can you believe it? That’s a whopping 239 days without anything lower than 30 degrees. It was the 8th longest streak in our city’s 137-year history! Talk about a warm stretch!
On Friday morning, temperatures dropped to around 27 degrees shortly before 7 a.m. at the Kansas City International Airport. You know how it is – with the wind chill, it felt even colder at a chilling 21 degrees. Brrr!
A Little Weekend Warm-up
But don’t worry just yet! This weekend, lucky for us, it looks like a delightful warm-up is on the horizon. The temperatures will climb back up and reach around 10 degrees above the normal range! Saturday will be in the upper 50s and Sunday in the low to mid 60s. Can you say “yes, please?”
Expect clear skies and sunny days to chase those winter blues away! But, hold on to your hats – it’s going to be another chilly evening on Friday as we round off into the weekend.
The Cold Front is Coming!
All good things must come to an end, and that includes this mild weather! As Sunday night rolls around, a cold front is set to push through the area, bringing a quick return of those chilly temperatures. The National Weather Service reports a chance of light rain showers from Sunday night into Monday. Don’t forget your umbrella!
By Monday, you will need to bundle up even more, with temperatures hanging around the mid 40s during the day, plummeting down to the 20s overnight. Yikes! That’s quite a temperature drop!
Thanksgiving Weather Uncertainty
Now, let’s talk about Thanksgiving! While we’re all getting excited for turkey and the warm feel of family togetherness, the weather outlook isn’t entirely clear for the holiday week. Tuesday looks to stay cool and dry with those mid 40s during the day and dipping around freezing at night.
As for Wednesday and Thanksgiving Day, there’s some uncertainty in the forecast. It appears that the chance for rain—or even a mix of rain and snow—might linger. But here’s the catch: precipitation chances are looking less likely! So, don’t count on snow to create that cozy holiday scene just yet!
Highs for Thanksgiving Day itself could linger in the mid 30s to upper 40s. So, it might be a good idea to keep those cozy sweaters handy!

It’s a wild weather week ahead, Kansas City! From cold snaps to weekend warmth, we’ll all need to stay on our toes and monitor those forecasts closely! Whether you’re planning outdoor activities or cozying up with family for the holidays, prepare for whatever the weather throws our way!
