As 2024 comes to a close, Kansas City is preparing for a dramatic weather shift. A warm day with temperatures reaching 50 degrees is followed by fog, rain, and the possibility of light snow overnight. As New Year’s Eve approaches, chilly temperatures in the upper 30s anticipate a colder celebration, but clearer skies for New Year’s Day are expected. Incoming cold weather brings the potential for snow next weekend with temperatures diving back into the freezing range. A strong storm system may deliver measurable snowfall and keep residents cozy indoors.
As we wrap up 2024, our beloved Kansas City is gearing up for a weather mix that’s sure to have everyone talking. The last Monday of the year is shaping up to be warmer than usual, with temperatures expected to soar to a pleasant 50 degrees. That’s a good bit above the norm of 39 degrees we usually see this time of year!
While some residents might wake up to a bit of fog on Monday morning, it looks like it won’t be as widespread as what we’ve seen recently, so driving should be relatively smooth! The day will bring some afternoon rain, which is expected to hang around into the evening and overnight. Most of this precipitation will stay as rain thanks to those warmer temperatures. However, if you’re in far northern Missouri, don’t be surprised if you catch a glimpse of some light snow after midnight as temperatures dip just below freezing. But fear not, any accumulation will likely be minimal!
As we shift gears to New Year’s Eve, you might want to grab a jacket, because a cool breeze is on its way. Expect temperatures to settle into the upper 30s throughout the day before plunging to the mid-20s at night. It might be a chilly celebration, but clear skies are in the forecast for New Year’s Day, bringing a delightful start to 2025! However, don’t expect any heatwave on the horizon, as temperatures will hang around average.
Come Thursday, Kansas City might see a slight bounce back with temperatures climbing back to around 40 degrees. Fans of winter weather, hang on to your hats! The rest of the week looks to be on the cooler side, with the potential for some light snow flurries gracing the skies of northern Missouri.
Fast forward to Friday, and those temperatures will be back down to around freezing. The weekend is poised to continue the trend with highs in the mid- to upper 20s, and overnight temperatures diving into the teens and 20s. Pack those winter coats!
But the excitement doesn’t stop there! A stronger storm system seems to have Kansas City in its sights for the weekend, and that means we could be in for measurable snowfall. Don’t forget to keep an eye on the forecast, as there’s about a 30% chance that we’ll see snowfall exceeding 3 inches throughout the area. This could very well be the heaviest snowfall we’ve experienced this winter season so far, according to meteorological predictions.
While this winter has been relatively quiet up until now, it looks like Kansas City is gearing up for a cozy forecast that might just keep us indoors and sipping hot cocoa while watching the snow fall. So make sure you’re prepared for everything from that unexpected rain to the possibility of a fluffy winter blanket!
