In an unfortunate turn of events, a ghastly two-vehicle accident that occured on Friday in Kansas City claimed the life of one person and left three others injured. The tragic incident took place just after 7:30p.m.
The fatal accident involved a Mazda Protégé heading east on 63rd Street in Kansas City at an accelerated speed, stated Officer Jake Becchina. Regrettably, at the intersection of 63rd and 350 Highway, the Mazda swerved off the roadway to the left. It then continued upwards over the concrete center median, crashing hard into a concrete bridge support.
The impact was astronomical, as it caused the Mazda to flip and send it spinning into the westbound lanes of 63rd Street. In its trajectory, it collided with a Buick Century that was heading in the opposite direction.
In the aftermath of the collision, the driver of the Mazda was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were immediately called in and rushed the front seat passenger of the Mazda, who suffered critical injuries, to a nearby hospital.
The Buick, bearing the brunt of the Mazda’s fatal trajectory, had its driver and front seat passenger also sent to a local hospital. Fortunately, their injuries were assessed as non-threatening to life.
This incident marks a growing trend of fatal traffic accidents in Kansas City, with the past year witnessing an unwanted climb. As documented by Officer Becchina, this is fatal accident number 24 in Kansas City, Missouri for this year alone compared to a recorded 13 fatalities at this exact time last year.
While the incident is currently under investigation, the local authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution and strictly adhere to the speed limits. Authorities hope to staunch this alarming trend of fatalities through concerted, community-wide efforts towards improving road safety. Measures to increase public awareness and implement stricter enforcement of traffic laws are being discussed.
The families affected by this shocking incident are currently being supported by the community and local non-profit organizations, focusing on providing them with much-needed emotional and material support.
Our hearts go out to those affected, and we encourage all drivers within the community to adopt and promote safer driving habits for the wellbeing of everyone on the road.
