Heads Up, Kansas City! Major I-435 Closures Coming This Week

If you’re planning to drive around Kansas City this week, you’ll want to pay attention to some important updates! The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) is getting ready for some overnight roadwork that’s going to affect traffic on I-435, and we’ve got all the details you need to know to avoid a headache.

When is This Happening?

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, November 6, and Thursday, November 7. Starting at 7 p.m. on each of these days, there will be full closures of both the westbound and eastbound lanes of I-435. The construction is set to wrap up by 6 a.m. on Friday, November 8, so just a couple of nights of planning and you’re golden!

Where Will the Closures Be?

For the westbound traffic, closures will stretch from Antioch Road to Quivira Road. Unfortunately, this also means that the on- and off-ramps for westbound I-435 onto southbound U.S. 69 and the northbound U.S. 69 ramp to westbound I-435 will also be completely closed during this time.

As for eastbound traffic, the closures will affect the stretch from Quivira Road to Antioch Road, including the on-ramp from eastbound I-435 to northbound U.S. 69. So, if you typically go that way, you might want to think about alternatives!

Why the Interruptions?

Now, you might be wondering why all this is happening. The reason for these road closures is for girder setting on the southbound U.S. 69 bridge over I-435. This work is just one part of the ongoing U.S. 69 expansion project, aimed at making our roads safer and more efficient in the long run.

Don’t Worry, We’ve Got Your Detour Plans!

Have no fear because we’ve got the detours lined up to keep you moving! If you’re heading west on I-435, here’s what you should do:

  • Travel eastbound on I-435.
  • Take the ramp to southbound U.S. 69.
  • Exit at College Boulevard.
  • From College Boulevard, hop onto the northbound U.S. 69 entrance ramp.
  • Continue heading north on U.S. 69 to use the eastbound I-435 ramp.
  • Then, you can continue eastbound on I-435.

For those heading eastbound, the detour is fairly similar, just in reverse! Think of it as a mini-adventure, just a little longer than your usual commute!

Stay Informed!

Whether you’re commuting to work, running errands, or just out for a drive, it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on the traffic updates. These constructions can sometimes open earlier than expected, but be sure to plan ahead just in case. Nothing worse than getting caught in a traffic snarl!

So, Kansas City, be smart, stay safe, and keep those seatbelts fastened as you navigate through this construction period. It’s sure to brighten your day when it’s done, and the roads will be even better for all of us!

Take care and drive carefully out there!
