A series of breakdowns and crashes on major routes like I-29, I-35, and I-70 has created hazardous driving conditions. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and expect delays as broken down vehicles and accidents continue to affect traffic flow. The city’s residents are reminded to allow extra time for their commutes amidst ongoing lane closures and hazardous weather conditions.

Kansas City Faces Traffic Nightmares Amidst Multiple Incidents

It’s a tough night for drivers in Kansas City. With rain pouring down, the roads have become a bit treacherous, and several traffic incidents are making the evening commute more challenging than usual. The rain has created some serious hazards and just when you think it can’t get worse, broken down vehicles and crashes seem to appear everywhere!

Northbound Struggles on I-29/I-35

Late Friday evening, around 7:57 p.m., reports came in about a broken down vehicle on northbound I-29/I-35. This particular incident was situated between 16th Avenue/Exit 5 and the MO-210/Armour Road/Exit 6. Updating just twenty-five minutes later, it was indicated that this issue was impacting the flow of traffic. In fact, another similar report came in at exactly the same time, on the same stretch of road, further obstructing traffic by an additional 310 feet!

Issues on I-35 in Lenexa

Meanwhile, around 7:28 p.m. in Lenexa, motorists faced another setback as a broken down vehicle on eastbound I-35 from 95th Street/Exit 224 to West 87th Street/Exit 225 claimed a whopping 660 feet of road. As if that wasn’t enough, there was another breakdown on the same stretch reported earlier at 2:30 p.m., adding more frustration to drivers’ already packed schedules.

Crashes in Liberty and Beyond

As if the broken down vehicles weren’t enough to deal with, Liberty saw a crash reported at 5:18 p.m. on northbound I-35. This incident, affecting 310 feet of roadway, was updated shortly after, quickly catching the attention of drivers in the area.

And don’t forget about I-635! A crash reported early Saturday at 1:17 a.m. left 230 feet of lane unusable, further worsening the situation.

The I-70 Mayhem

And let’s not leave out I-70! Late on Friday evening, reports flooded in regarding a series of broken down vehicles along this major route, stretching from Jackson Avenue/Exit 5 to Van Brunt Boulevard/Exit 6. One notable breakdown was reported at 9:14 p.m., affecting a significant 380 feet. But the troubles didn’t stop there, with even more breakdowns reported later that night.

Traffic alerts indicated that multiple crashes were impacting distances of up to 540 feet on eastbound I-70. Bad weather combined with these incidents can often lead motorists to reconsider their routes altogether.

Heavy Rain and Ongoing Warnings

Adding fuel to the fire, heavy rain conditions are wreaking havoc across the Kansas City area. I-70 and I-435 are particularly affected, contributing to dangerous driving conditions. Residents are reminded to exercise caution while driving in these unfavorable conditions and allow themselves extra time to reach their destinations.

Lane Closures and Additional Breakdown Reports

Let’s not forget about lane closures—northbound US-69 in Overland Park is seeing a closure affecting 1.53 miles. This was initially reported at 7 a.m. and remained an issue until 11:59 p.m., leaving many drivers in a bind.

In Pleasant Valley, broken down vehicles on northbound I-35 were reported, with updates throughout both the afternoon and evening. Another crash on northbound US-71 at 3:47 p.m. saw traffic impacted for 420 feet, causing more backups for those trying to navigate the area.

A Cautionary Note

With so many incidents on the roads, it’s a good reminder to drive attentively. Stay safe out there, Kansas City! It seems that we all need to keep our eyes peeled while navigating these tricky traffic conditions and prepare for a *bumpy ride*. Let’s look out for each other and hope for clearer skies ahead!
