One of the standout aspects of the meet was the jumping events, where several Kansas City athletes soared to new personal bests. It’s always exciting to see the hard work pay off, and that was definitely the case for this talented team. Out of a pool of competitors, six Roos managed to finish their respective events in the top five, marking a significant achievement for the squad. Among these, what’s truly remarkable is that four of them secured spots in the top three!
One of the most noteworthy performances came from Nahshon Houston and Miguel Hernandez, both of whom excelled in the men’s long jump. These two athletes really pushed themselves and came out with career-best performances that surely left everyone in awe. Taylor Bailey also made waves by snagging a first-place finish in the high jump, proving that the Roos are a force to be reckoned with.
Previous Events: Setting the Pace!
Just prior to the CMU Invite, Kansas City participated in the Jayhawk Spring Fling held in Lawrence, Kansas. This event was another fantastic opportunity for the Roos to showcase their skills, and they did not disappoint! Nahshon Houston clocked an impressive time of 22.12 seconds in the 200-meter dash, while Miguel Hernandez pushed himself further with a long jump mark of 6.91 meters, besting his previous record of 6.88 meters. Dontez Carr also jumped into the spotlight by achieving a personal best with a distance of 6.54 meters in long jump.
On the women’s side, Kyrah Anderson impressed everyone with her personal best time of 27.44 seconds in the 200-meter event, while Alanie Rivera completed the 1500-meter race in 5:10.95, marking her own personal best as well. Each of these performances continues to build the momentum that this team has cultivated over the season so far.
Historical Achievements Mark The Season
The Kansas City Track and Field team has had its fair share of noteworthy moments this season. At the ISU Holiday Invitational prior to the outdoor season, the Roos broke school records and achieved a staggering 18 top five placements. Freshman Jayden Henry made headlines by setting a program record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.71 seconds, while sophomore Tory Lanham also set a school record in the indoor 200-meter dash with a blazing time of 21.60 seconds. It’s clear that this team is fired up and ready to make their mark!
Looking Ahead: The Road to Success Continues!
As the team looks forward, they are gearing up to compete at the Midwest Classic, hosted by Emporia State University on Friday, April 4, 2025. With the wind at their backs and their spirits high, the Roos are eager to keep building on their impressive streak of successes.
