Residents of Kansas City and surrounding areas are advised to stay alert as a severe thunderstorm watch has been issued, lasting until 1 a.m. Thursday. In addition, a severe thunderstorm warning is currently in effect for Leavenworth and Wyandotte counties in Kansas and Platte County in Missouri until 11:45 p.m.
According to weather officials, the storm system could bring winds gusting up to 60 mph and may cause hail as large as tennis balls in certain areas. The risk of scattered wind gusts reaching up to 70 mph has also been highlighted. Furthermore, there’s a possibility of tornado activity between 10 p.m. and 12 a.m. tonight.
The severe thunderstorm watch extends beyond Kansas City, encompassing cities like Lawrence, Topeka, Manhattan, Emporia, and St. Joseph.
As storms approach, it is crucial for residents to take precautions:
Though weather conditions can be unpredictable, being prepared can make a significant difference. It is always better to be safe than to let adverse weather catch you off guard.
As the storm approaches, keep in touch with local updates and stay vigilant. Your safety is the top priority tonight.
