Kansas City Welcomes New Sustainable Data Center: A Step Towards a Greener Future

Kansas City is on the rise, and it’s not just because of the barbecue! This vibrant city is establishing itself as a go-to hub for tech innovations, particularly with the recent opening of Edged Kansas City. This state-of-the-art data center opened its doors earlier this month at 3420 North Arlington Avenue, bringing exciting new opportunities for the city and the surrounding region.

Building for Tomorrow

Officials celebrated the grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking the transformation of a once-vacant site into a thriving digital hub. “Our strength in the technology sector, specifically data centers, has been building over the last several years,” said Steven Anthony, who is vice president of business development for the Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City (EDCKC).

The launch of Edged Kansas City is just one part of a bigger strategy to attract cutting-edge tech firms to the area. With a focus on sustainability, the facility is designed to be both carbon and water neutral. Anthony and other officials believe the new center will strengthen the city’s position on the national stage when it comes to data centers and tech market opportunities.

A Sustainable Solution

What sets the Edged facility apart from traditional data centers? For starters, it features waterless cooling systems that allow it to operate without tapping into the region’s valuable water resources. This is a big deal! Conventional data centers typically consume massive amounts of water to stay cool. In fact, Edged Kansas City is expected to save an impressive nearly 95 million gallons of water every year. That’s like having enough water for a small town!

This facility delivers 26 megawatts of critical capacity to the region, which means it has the power to support advanced computing technology and cloud services effectively. It uses a stunning 74 percent less energy overhead than traditional data centers, making it a model for sustainability across the entire tech landscape.

Community Impact

Local leaders are excited about what Edged Kansas City means for the city’s future. Mayor Quinton Lucas expressed pride in hosting a company that not only values economic development but also prioritizes environmental stewardship. “It’s why we are excited Edged is opening a brand-new sustainable data center in Kansas City, a powerful example of how sustainability and technology can work together,” Lucas commented during the ceremony.

Governor Mike Parson also added his enthusiasm for the project, calling it yet another example of how innovative companies are choosing Missouri for their operations. He highlighted the strategic location, strong infrastructure, and skilled workforce that Missouri offers to businesses.

A Growing Network

The Edged facility is part of a rapidly expanding network of data centers across the United States, with additional locations being constructed or already operational in big cities like Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Columbus, and Phoenix.

According to Bryant Farland, CEO of Edged, the new center represents a stunning initial economic investment of $143 million in the Kansas City area. This investment is expected to create jobs and drive further economic growth, all while emphasizing sustainability. “We are honored to support Kansas City’s thriving digital economy with innovative and sustainable solutions,” Farland stated proudly.

Conclusion: A Bright Future Ahead

Kansas City is not just keeping up with the times; it’s racing ahead with a vision that incorporates technology and environmental responsibility into one seamless package. The opening of Edged Kansas City signals to the world that Kansas City is ready for a future where tech and sustainability go hand in hand.

Watch out, world—Kansas City is on the map as a leading contender in the next generation of digital infrastructure, and this is just the beginning!
