Kansas City Spotlight: SábaDos Festival Ignites Local Talent and Entrepreneurship

Kansas City Celebrates Local Talent at SábaDos Festival

Kansas City, Mo. — For the past three years, SábaDos has emerged as a vibrant force within the underground pop culture and art scene here in Kansas City. This amazing pop-up event kicked off in a Mexican restaurant on the Kansas side of the city and has now outgrown its current home at Lemonade Park in the West Bottoms. It’s clear that the community is craving spaces to connect, inspire, and innovate!

A Platform for Creatives

As FK Menace, the brilliant mind behind this lively event, puts it, “We feel that people every day get inspired by one another. This is such a great place to get your start.” The essence of SábaDos is to give DJs and music producers a platform to showcase their incredible talents. Although the event has remained true to its musical roots, it has gracefully expanded to include a variety of entrepreneurs and established vendors. “The pandemic really sat people down and made people realize that, ‘Okay, I can do this,’” FK Menace explained, highlighting the transformative power of the community.

A Home for Entrepreneurs

Among the local entrepreneurs making waves is Alexis Briones, the owner of Lexoh, an in-home incense dipping business. “When the pandemic hit, I was like nothing else matters anymore, and I needed to put myself into this,” Briones enthusiastically shared. For her, being a part of SábaDos has opened new doors and introduced her to like-minded individuals who share her passion for the city. Lexoh showcases custom incense burners and hand-dipped incense sticks that even come with a QR code linking to a playlist curated to match the essence of each scent. How cool is that?

Diverse Vendors and Unique Offerings

SábaDos is a melting pot of creativity, hosting a variety of vendors that range from cannabis dispensaries to vintage clothing shops, and local artists who showcase their extraordinary work. One of those vendors, Made Mobb, a streetwear-inspired clothing brand from Kansas City, participated in the recent festival on October 12. Alex Harris, the sales manager for Made Mobb, revealed that the brand’s journey began with selling out of the trunk of a car. Since then, they’ve collaborated with the city’s professional sports teams to create apparel inspired by team colors and on-field jerseys.

The Key to Success

Harris is quick to share his wisdom about entrepreneurship: “Consistency is key. Find something you can scale, find your community and target market. Then, support them. Be present with them. That’s how you’re going to grow.” It’s insights like these that make SábaDos a valuable resource for aspiring entrepreneurs in the community.

Inspiration All Around

Briones echoes the sentiment of admiration when she talks about Made Mobb, saying, “I think about Made Mobb constantly. They’re a presence in my mind because I feel like I watched it happen.” The sense of community and inspiration is palpable, as local creators cheer each other on and celebrate their success together.

Looking Ahead

SábaDos wrapped up its final celebration of the year recently but will return in May 2025, continuing its mission to uplift and support local talent. As a special joy, the festival takes place on the second Saturday of each month, a day locals have come to anticipate for camaraderie and creativity. With the motto of believing in local entrepreneurs, it’s no wonder that SábaDos has become a beloved gathering point in Kansas City.

This eventjust proves that with the right mix of passion, perseverance, and community support, dreams can not only be sparked but can blossom into thriving enterprises. Kansas City is surely on the rise as a hub for creativity and entrepreneurship!
