Shoe Store Bounces Back from Past Break-Ins, Returns to Kansas City from Independence

Following a series of unfortunate break-ins, a local shoe store is taking its strides back home, from Independence to Kansas City, Missouri. This resilient return also defines a triumph over past adversities for the businessman, KJ Farmer.
Recuperating from Challenging Times
Farmer was previously reported to have experienced a series of break-ins at his former store located on Troost Avenue and East 55th Street. The devastating attacks not only weakened the foundation of his business but also tarnished the very spirit of the place where he grew up.
“Independence has been great, but like, I want to make a change in the community I was raised in, so I’m looking to come back home,” he expressed.
A Forced Farewell
Upon recalling the exit from his beloved locality, Farmer said he never wanted to leave 55th and Troost. However, escalating rent and recurring break-ins led him to choose the sustainability of his business over his affection for the local community.
The Independence Stint and Lessons Learned
Having gained his footing back in Independence, Farmer now looks forward to appropriating his experiences to ensure a safer return to Kansas City. As part of his plan to enhanced security measures, he intends to install a pulldown gate at his shoe store.
“$20,000 just for the gate. But that’s the proper precautions you got to take … I continue to do these things even when I get setbacks because I love what I do,” Farmer explained.
Step by Step, Making a Way Home
The entrepreneur remains undeterred by past mishaps and is enthusiastic about the return to his home city. He informed about signing a lease for three-to-five years, signifying not just a temporal stay but the establishment of a long-term business home.
“We’re not looking to just get here and move somewhere else; we’ve been looking for a space to call home. And I think this might be home,” Farmer optimistically expressed.
