Say Goodbye to Anita’s Famous Rolls: A Kansas City Farewell

As the festive season approaches, Kansas City is bracing itself for a bittersweet farewell. Anita, the beloved owner and baker of Anita’s Famous Rolls, is preparing to hang up her apron and officially retire this December. After years of delighting the community with her scrumptious baked goods, choosing to visit this cozy bakery has never been more urgent for anyone who hasn’t had the chance to savor Anita’s delightful rolls.

From Food Truck to Bakery Stardom

Getting to know Anita is like diving into a delightful food fairy tale. Starting out on a food truck in the early ’80s in sunny San Diego, Anita’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring. She ventured into the world of bake goods with a small diner nestled in the mountains near El Cajon, California. By the time 1992 rolled around, she had settled into Columbia, Missouri, where she launched “Anita’s Home Style Catering.” Little did she know that her rolls would soon become a household name throughout the state.

Known fondly as “the Lady that makes those Famous Rolls” on a popular local NBC television show, she quickly became a holiday hero, selling thousands of pans of rolls each year!

The Heart of Kansas City Bakes

After a bit of a rocky road during the pandemic, in September 2020, Anita opened Anita’s Famous Rolls in Kansas City. Stepping inside her charming bakery, you’d be welcomed by the cozy scent of cinnamon and freshly baked rolls—gifts from the oven that are so comforting they can whisk you back to childhood Christmas mornings. The modern decor plus that invitingly warm atmosphere makes it a popular spot for both locals and visitors alike, perfect for indulging in classic baked goodies.

On my recent visit, I simply couldn’t resist sinking my teeth into one of her iconic rolls. Let me tell you, it was a revelation! Soft, airy, and just the right amount of sweetness. The cinnamon rolls? Legendary! The aroma wafted through the air, urging every passerby to step in and experience the magic themselves. But as December approaches, the clock is ticking down on this haven of baking.

Time to Stock Up!

With Anita stepping into a new chapter of her life, it’s heartening to remember all the joy she’s shared through her baking. So what’s next, you ask? There are plans in place to either sell or close the shop after she retires, which means it’s time for fans old and new to rally together! Be sure to place your holiday orders soon—especially during Thanksgiving week, as they’re expected to fly out the door!

Let’s send Anita off in style, filling our tables and hearts with her delicious creations one last time. A round of applause is in order for everything she has accomplished—what an inspiring legacy she leaves behind!

Discover the Cozy Charm of Thou Mayest

While we’re on the topic of fantastic experiences in Kansas City, if you haven’t visited Thou Mayest, you’re missing out! This isn’t your average coffee shop; it’s a splendid blend of cozy café vibes mixed with craft cocktail culture, making it a true gem in the heart of the city.

More Than Just Coffee

As someone who decided to skip the cocktails, I opted for a delicious Pollinated Lavender Latte (both hot and iced because, why not!). The friendly baristas made them with such care, and let me tell you, they did not disappoint. The hot version was a warm hug in a cup, featuring delicate floral notes combining beautifully with creamy oat milk—truly soothing on a chilly, rainy day. And hey, the iced version wasn’t too shabby either; light and refreshing, perfect for warmer days!

A Community Hub

Thou Mayest is more than just about the drinks—it’s a cozy sanctuary for Kansas City’s remote-working crowd, complete with comfy seating and lush greenery that just invites you to stay awhile. Founded in a garage back in 2012, their mission reflects the idea of life as an ever-evolving journey, encouraging everyone who walks in to view life as “a vast, glowing, empty page,” waiting eagerly for us to fill it up.

If you’re in the area, make sure to indulge in the delightful offerings at both Anita’s Famous Rolls and Thou Mayest. Enjoy the warmth, flavor, and community spirit these places bring to Kansas City.
