Get ready, Kansas City! Something magical is about to happen at the Truman Theatre on November 8—the Queens of Oz tribute show! This event is bringing together some of the fiercest drag artists to celebrate our vibrant LGBTQ+ community and relive the unforgettable moments from the beloved musical “The Wiz.”
Step inside the Truman Theatre, located at 601 E Truman Rd, and prepare yourself for a spectacular evening filled with glitz, glamour, and unforgettable performances. On stage will be drag queens Widow Von’Du, Q, and Mo Heart, who are all set to dazzle audiences with their unique styles. What makes this event even more special is that it’s the first time these three queens will perform together since competing on various seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
Mo Heart, who captured hearts in season 10, is excited to return to her hometown of Kansas City. “I wanted to come back to Kansas City to honor and show everyone that we produce amazing entertainers,” she shares. With a solid career in drag, Mo has not only been a fierce competitor on the show but has also hosted her own television series, The Walk In with Mo Heart, where she interviews big names in music. Her journey illustrates just how transformative the impact of participating in Drag Race can be.
Q shares her enthusiasm: “I’m really looking forward to it. It’s special and important for all of us to come together for the first time since being on national television.” Q, recognized as the first participant from Kansas on Drag Race, is gearing up to showcase an incredible Wizard of Oz-themed look at the event. “I love big looks and a grand moment. I definitely have some spectacle stuff planned that I’m really excited about,” she says.
But the fun doesn’t stop at the big three! The show will also feature a fabulous lineup of local queens including Cynthia Doll, Lana Luxx, Mulan Gabby, Genewa Stanwyck, Tajma Stetson, Rii Rii, and Jaharia. The energy on stage is sure to be electric with a combination of seasoned professionals and talented local performers.
Mo Heart had an inspiring idea for the show after being motivated by local performer Dirty Dorthy. “We wanted the girls to go from there with their imagination because Oz is a fantasy place where you can do and create whatever you want,” she explains. As the queens take the crowd on this fantastical journey, excitement is sure to fill the air!
In a time when the world feels full of darkness and uncertainty, Heart emphasizes the importance of creating an inclusive and welcoming environment through this event. “There’s a lot of hatefulness going on in the world, but if we can use drag to create a safe space for people to come and exhale, that’s what we want,” she states passionately.
The Queens of Oz tribute show is open to **all ages**, making it a family-friendly event! Doors will open at 7 p.m., with performances starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are available for advance purchase online, so be sure to grab yours in time for what promises to be an unforgettable night celebrating art, love, and community!
So gather your friends and head on over to the Truman Theatre on November 8! It’s a night you won’t want to miss—because as the fabulous Mo Heart would say, “There’s no place like home.” See you there!
