Kansas City Parents Prepared for Kindergarten Milestone

Kansas City, a bustling metro area, is witnessing a significant moment for families as children embark on their first day of kindergarten. This event marks a notable milestone not only for the young learners but also for their parents, who might be feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness as their little ones will spend several hours away from home.

For parents in the Kansas City metro, finding the right school for their child is paramount. Insights into local education options have been provided by Niche, a school and neighborhood ranking service that has released its 2025 rankings for the best public elementary schools in the region.

Top Schools Identified

Niche’s recent list features schools based on multiple data sources and reviews from past and present students. The results show a strong concentration of quality educational institutions within the Blue Valley Unified School District. A remarkable nine out of the top ten elementary schools belong to this district.

Leading the list is Lakewood Elementary School, located at 14600 Lamar Ave. in Overland Park. This school has not only secured the top position in the Kansas City area but also earned the title of the best elementary school in Kansas, receiving an overall A+ rating from Niche.

Blue Valley District Dominance

The Blue Valley Unified School District, recognized as the best district in Kansas, has received exceptional marks for its educational quality and faculty, achieving an overall A+ grade. It is notable that this district ranks 76th nationally, indicating its strong performance on a larger stage.

Aside from Lakewood Elementary, eight other schools from Blue Valley made their way to the top ten list, reinforcing the district’s reputation for excellence.

Inclusion from Missouri

The 2025 rankings also feature a school from Missouri, with James Walker Elementary School in Blue Springs, located at 201 SE Sunnyside School Road, securing an A grade. This marks a significant presence for Missouri in a predominately Kansas-focused list, as they take the only other spot in the top ten.

The next Missouri school to appear follows at No. 15 with Franklin Smith Elementary School, also from the Blue Springs R-IV School District.

Local Representation from Kansas City

As the rankings continue, the first Kansas City, Missouri public elementary school to appear is English Landing Elementary School within the Park Hill School District, positioned at No. 73 on the list. The rankings also highlight Hale Cook Elementary School, part of Kansas City Public Schools, recognized for serving economically disadvantaged students, coming in as the second-best standout school. This school is noted as the first KCPS institution to find a place on Niche’s overall rankings, landing at No. 193.
