A motorcycle driver is currently in dire condition, having fallen 35 feet into a railyard from a highway in Kansas City, Missouri. The terrifying incident occurred on a section of the elevated highway presently ongoing construction and modification.
The Accident in Detail
The Kansas City Police Department reports that the accident happened shortly past 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 6. Responding to a call about a single-vehicle crash near the area of the northbound Highway 169 and Highway 9 intersection, emergency crews arrived at the scene to find signs of a high speed crash involving a blue Kawasaki motorcycle.
Police investigation reveals that the driver, whose identity is yet to be made public, was moving at a high speed along the 169 Highway heading north. Noticing too late the sharp curve nearing the Highway 9 exit, and with the road under construction and reduced to one lane, the motorcyclist lost control and smashed into a concrete barrier.
The Fall
Coming immediately after hitting the barrier, the motorcycle and its driver continued traveling north, glancing off the barrier. The driver was then ejected and fell about 35 feet into a railyard below the highway. Fortunately, the driver did not land on the tracks.
A Close Call With a Passing Train
Making the incident even more dramatic, a Union Pacific train was passing through the area at the time of the accident. The train operator was able to halt the moving train promptly after spotting the falling driver and immediately contacted emergency services.
