Kansas City Mayor’s Chief of Staff Steps Down with Another Native Stepping Up
In an unexpected announcement, Kansas City’s Mayor Quinton Lucas has confirmed that his highly-regarded Chief of Staff, Morgan Said, will be vacating her position at the end of this month. Lucky for Kansas City, however, this farewell comes with the reassurance of continuity as another KC native is poised to fill the vacant post.
Morgan Said Bids Adieu
Announced on Friday, 24th May 2024, by Mayor Quinton Lucas, Morgan Said has decided to step down at the conclusion of a long-planned transition. Her dedicated service as a valued member of the mayor’s office since 2019 and as his Chief of Staff since September 2021 will officially end on the 31st of May.
“Morgan’s devoted service has aligned with some of the most historic years in Kansas City,” Mayor Lucas acclaimed. “She was instrumental in saving lives during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic, she catalysed billions of dollars in economic and infrastructure development within the city, particularly focusing on long-overlooked areas like East Kansas City, West Bottoms, and the Riverfront.”
Said’s Commendable Contributions
Of Palestinian descent and educated at an all-women’s school, Morgan Said is admired for championing the promotion and support of women and historically underrepresented groups in office. As the mayor puts it, her contributions have shaped the government of Kansas City’s successful endeavours such as securing the organization of major events like the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Said’s expertise and acumen have fostered Kansas City’s reputation nationally – at Wall Street, the White House, and Congress, emphasising her role as a game-changer in the local leadership realm. But as one chapter closes, Said plans to utilise her summer sabbatical to continue contributing to the community while advising the mayor’s office.
A New Chapter with Reid Day
As Kansas City says goodbye to a dedicated leader, it welcomes another as Reid Day prepares to take over Said’s responsibilities starting from Monday, June 3. A South Kansas City native and resident, Day joined the mayor’s office in February 2023 after serving as an attorney with the local office of renowned law firm, Lathrop GPM.
Lucas expressed his gratitude for Said’s services and looked forward to the new journey, stating, “Having spoken to her each day for the past almost five years, I extend my sincerest thanks for her tireless work on behalf of the people of our great city.”
