Kansas City, Mo. – In a shocking turn of events, a local man, Kenon R. McClendon, has found himself in a heap of trouble after allegedly making chilling threats to shoot individuals at various agencies. The 29-year-old has been charged with multiple counts of terrorist threats following a series of alarming phone calls.
The drama began on the evening of October 22, around 5:40 p.m. when law enforcement was called to the East Transit Bus Station due to a caller who threatened to shoot the Titan Security Officers stationed there. The Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department jumped into action, racing to the scene amidst reports of the frightening threat.
Investigators were able to home in on the caller’s location thanks to a noise recorded from a crosswalk nearby. Surveillance footage caught McClendon making a call while standing at E. 12th and Charlotte St., making it clear he was not just making idle threats.
Fast forward to November 5, and it seems McClendon wasn’t done with his alarming behavior. He made another call to the bus station again, threatening to shoot the security officers guarding the place. But that wasn’t the end of it. During the investigation, it came to light that McClendon has a history of similar threatening calls. In fact, he had previously called the Jackson County, Missouri, Detention Center, warning of a shooting at the jail.
Corrections officials revealed they had received at least three other calls of this nature, adding to the urgency and seriousness of McClendon’s threats. It’s concerning that this isn’t the first instance of his troubling behavior!
As the clock struck 7:50 a.m. on November 5, officers were able to locate McClendon about a block away from the East Village Transit Center. They apprehended him and during questioning, he admitted to being present at the transit center and to making the calls but denied any actual threats. It’s quite a twist, isn’t it?
Currently, McClendon is facing three counts of terrorist threat in the second degree and remains in custody with a bond set at an eye-watering $50,000. His first court appearance is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 7— the anticipation is building!
As this saga unfolds, many are left wondering what the consequences will be for McClendon. Terroristic threats are a serious matter, especially in today’s climate, and with a history of such behavior, he could face severe repercussions. What may have started as careless chatter has escalated into a legal nightmare for him.
The community is likely relieved that the authorities took swift action. Nobody should have to feel unsafe at public locations, whether it be a transit station or a correctional facility. As information becomes available, many will be keeping a close watch on this case. It’s a reminder of the importance of taking threats seriously and the role of law enforcement in keeping the community safe.
