Kansas City Highlights Pride, Juneteenth, and the Best Concerts in June 2024 Event Calendar

In June 2024, Kansas City bursts with energy, excitement and diversity as it highlights Pride, Juneteenth, and an array of exceptional concerts in the region. This noteworthy and diverse calendar of events gives individuals an opportunity to celebrate, commemorate and enjoy Kansas City’s vibrant and inclusive culture.

Juneteenth Film Festival and More

Kicking off the event-filled month is the second annual Juneteenth Film Festival, to be held at the Screenland Armour Theatre from June 4th to the 26th. Curated by esteemed journalist and film critic, Shawn Edwards, the festival features six locally-produced independent films: four documentaries and two feature films. Other notable events include “Arts in the Park” at William E. Macken Park and the Midwest Fest at Hy-Vee Arena.

Boulevardia and Breakaway Music Festival

June also sees the city come alive with music at the Boulevardia festival, an annual event full of food, craft beer and live performances from musicians such as Thundercat, The Phantastics, and Danny Santell. This year, the festival runs over Father’s Day weekend, making it the perfect celebration for dads who love great music and good food.

Just a day later, the Breakaway Music Festival is set to electrify the Azura Amphitheater, drawing huge crowds eager for a night of dynamic performances.

Juneteenth Celebrations

In honor of Juneteenth, there are a variety of events taking place across Kansas City. This includes the Juneteenth KC Cultural Parade on June 1st, the Juneteenth KC First Friday Celebration on June 7th, and the Juneteenth KC Heritage Festival on June 15th. These festive events recognize the resilience, strength, and contributions of the African American community in a celebratory and inclusive way.

Pride Events

Respecting the diversity and inclusivity of Kansas City, the month of June also honors LGBTQ+ Pride. A standout event is the Queer Dyke Night! – put together by Big Rip Brewing Company on June 21st. This event offers a safe space for queer women and non-binary individuals to dance, drink and have fun while celebrating Pride Month.

Another highlight is the Folly Pride Concert at the Folly Theater on June 22nd. This inaugural concert will feature *Glee* star and Tony Award winner Alex Newell, a notable non-binary actor, delivering a memorable performance for the community.

Unforgettable Concerts and Performances

Apart from the festivals, June is also filled with an array of memorable concerts. Exceptional performances from popular artists such as Amos Lee, New Kids On The Block, Liza Treyger and more on different dates throughout the month make Kansas City a hot spot for live music and entertainment.

Inclusive Celebrations

In conclusion, June in Kansas City is filled with vibrant festivals, commemorations, and live performances that promote diversity and inclusivity. Whether you’re keen on film, a lover of music, or simply looking to join in the celebrations of Pride and Juneteenth, the array of events in June 2024 promises something for everyone.
