Kansas City’s American Jazz Walk of Fame Hits a Decade Milestone
Renowned for its deep-rooted musical history and as the heartland of jazz, Kansas City recently marked the 10th anniversary of the American Jazz Walk of Fame. This significant milestone further establishes the city’s status as a beacon of cultural and musical significance, not only within the United States but on the global stage.
Decade of Celebrating Musical Legends
Located in the thriving 18th and Vine District, the American Jazz Walk of Fame has, since its inception in 2014, honored legends of the jazz world with bronze plaques lining the historic sidewalks. Celebrating a decade of recognizing illustrious contributions to the history and culture of jazz, the Walk has immortalized timeless acts like Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, and Burt Bacharach among others.
The 10th-anniversary festivities that took place on Saturday, June 8, added Patti Austin, Roberta Flack, and Bob James to the esteemed ranks of the Hall of Fame. Patti Austin and Jose Feliciano also thrilled the spectators with their special performances as part of the grand celebrations.

“This is an opportunity to celebrate all these seminal figures here in music, and a lot of them represent more than just music, you know? They are people’s fathers, mentor, and community leaders, activists,” said Gerald Dunn, director of entertainment at the American Jazz Museum and the Blue Room. This statement emphasizes the central role these musicians played to the memories, culture, and communities of Kansas City and beyond.
